When it is women over 35? I think that that phenonomenon would ring true to a lot of places in the world. They would be wanting to have kids.

Now in China when its the same situation with a girl just over 25? I think that is a bit retarded. I remember hearing a friend tell me a saying her mother to her, "Marry under 25 and you choose the man, over 25 and the man chooses you," to perpetuate the retarded idea of "left over women." I think there was even governmental advertising at some point urging women to not be "left over." 

So its society against women on this one, and even though these are modern times, its one of the effects of the one child policy and the aging population who didnt have proper education.

A lot of women are like this at 35... all over the world.

But in China it's more of a problem because if a woman is too old, no man would want her.

Its the culture in China, any girl over 27 years old will "start" to have a problem finding a Chinese Husband. After 30 years old it becomes almost impossible for a lot of girls to find a Chinese husband. The typical so called "man find girl" method works like this, a 28 year old guy must try to find a 23 year old girl, Chinese parents believe they are better for having a baby, Chinese parents don't like older girls to marry their son's.

These older girls have a name also: "China's left over women."

Sure, some women are like that.  But even for women in their 30s if her parents hate you, as in my case, they will still leave you for the sake of making their parents happy.  Family harmony is more important than their daughter's happiness.

The government here has been promoting the idea of "Sheng Nv" for years now. As more women have been getting educated and putting careers & getting their own apartment in front of getting married and dropping a sprog early, the government got concerned about the number of un-married men, especially with the skewed population due to selective abortions creating a gender imbalance.

So there is a lot of pressure from society for women to get married in their early 20's and have a child almost immediately. This and the term sheng nu was promoted for quite a while by the All-China Women's Association, which was supposed to be there to work for women's freedoms, etc.

It's not just age here Hulk......Chinese men (actually most men) want to marry a woman who is lower in social standing and education then them so that they are seen as the "better" partner in the relationship. They don't want the wife to earn more than them or have a higher education as they would then lose face. So by the time educated women have built their career, bought their own apartment and become financially independent they then find that there is less of a choice of men for them to marry. 

Seems that the problem the government has recognised (& tried to deal with in a clumsy way) is that of lots of un-married educated successful women at one end of the scale and an even bigger pool of un-educated, low-earning un-married men at the other end. What do these guys do (who are estimated to number in their 10's of millions) when they find themselves single, sex-starved and unable to find a wife to pass on the family name, as is traditionally expected of them?

its more societal/parental pressure more than any other one thing. its just what is expected of you. in this light, i would say chinese culture can be rather rigid.

Find a guy>marry him>have a baby.

By 30 you SHOULD have that sorted.
