Q: Why are you still here?

I get that this is a good place to rant but it seems that some people truly hate this place. There is alot of complaints mixed with a fair bit of racism and a whole lot of negativity. And trust me ive been here as long as anyone i see that this place is messed up. But i dont understand why people who seem to hate it so much dont just move back home or try out another country. Soooooo why are you still here?

Me, I find it bearable, i like the lifestyle, my wife and close friends are here, and im quite sure that i couldnt match my current salary if i went back home. Another country is still up for grabs but i know a good thing when i see one, so im gonna stay pretty much as long as my company will have me.

Because emigration is something to prepare carefully, if you wish a not-too-rough transition for your Chinese partner Smile Like, passing IELTS and some other qualifications, saving some money, preparing her to a different mindset, etc... Ok, and I love my job here Tongue Hopefully, will telecommute from a greener place.

The good things out way the bad things.  Even though the pollution is getting worse I can still teach almost anywhere in China I choose. China is up and coming.  I find some things more interesting than in my home country. (Canada) In the end I can say "I can go home whenever want" ( I do that every year anyway)

The NSA has stopped spying on the Chancellor of Germany (maybe). Do you know why? She complained loudly.

The Obama administration fixed the healthcare.gov website, why? Because people complained loudly.

The USA stayed out of Syria , why? Because people complained loudly (assists to Putin and Kerry's big dumb mouth)

In a small town in China, the government canceled plans to build a nuclear power plant, why? The people complained loudly.

The US government continues to spy on the American public, why? People don't complain loud enough.

The US is still in Afghanistan and is planning on moving in permanently , why? Americans don't complain loud enough.

Just in case you can't figure it out, I'll give you another example. Every university I've worked at, they cut the heat off to the Chinese students dorms (for the entire months of December and January). They claim there is a "problem". This problem never gets fixed. This problem occurs the same exact time , every single year.

They never cut the power to the international students dorms, why? Because they would complain loudly.

You can come here and encourage people not to "talk bad about China" all you want, but look at the facts. There is no benefit to keeping quiet about problems, look at the anti spitting campaigns going on in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing. I am in China, so I will go no further.

mike695ca:

That is an incredibly foolish answer, your are comparing pissing and moaning and being racist on a expat forum to people facing real problems. You are comparing yourself having do deal with bullshit in China to people going through war. Just dumb. I never said anything about thjs place being perfect, i actually said its messed up if you read it. Do something about it? Moaning like a vag here isnt gonna get your heat on. Grow a sac and talk to your employers.

Wait so in your opinion driving crazy and running red lights does not cause problems for people? Serious air, water pollution does not create problems?

I really need to get in touch with your dealer, that's some good stuff.

Can I ask you a question. As a mouthpiece , what is the official explanation for allowing companies to ripoff hard working people. I have a slew of students who have graduated in the last 2 years. Many cry to me about working for companies who just refuse to pay them their salary. These hard working people then have no choice but to quit. This there a department that could actually handle this for them? Targeting and exploiting your own people is racist in my book.

Look dude. Im not the kinda guy to target english on this site as i make as many typos as anyone. But what you are describing isnt anywhere close to racist. Its horrible sure. But it certainly isnt racist. As a teacher i truly hope your not spouting that nonsense off. And why did you quote me " talking bad about China" where did i say that? Look im not trying to be a douche to you and im not arguing that this place isnt messed up. It was a simple question of why people choose to stay if they hate this place so much. Instead of an answer. You are making an insane claim that bitching on echinacities is promoting change. So i will ask you again. Why are you here if you hate it so much? Your free to leave. I was honest. I said clearly that i couldnt make my salary back home. I couldnt have the same quality of life. Why are you here?

Here is where you show that you are a mouthpiece. Pointing out what is wrong= you hate it. That is Chinese thinking and teaching.

Please answer my question.

There is no answer to your question. You asked, if you hate China so much why don't you leave? Where do you see that I said I hate China?

Let me ask you a question based on a false assumption. Do you like the time you spent on the moon? (There is no answer, learn logic)

For me ,China is a time out from life , I stay about  6 weeks a year and some years that feels like 5 weeks 4 days to long. If you need to get away from things that are normal to you China offers a place to hide , however the same could be said about getting inspiration . I find if I am stuck in a routine i get board and testy pretty quickly . Show be something new ! show me something that will get my interest !   And this is why the next time I go to China I will spend less time at our China home city and more time doing tourist stuff.. Playing it by ear only works for so long . hope my thoughts were understandable  Marry Xmass to you

I actually love china, a few things i dislike ,especially when the sidewalks are parking lots and pedestrians do not have the right away on crosswalks. But i have met people that hate it here but won't leave due to the fact this is the only job they have right now.

i love what i do , my wife is here and we will stay here long as possible.

Nessquick:

I love when side walks are full of cars with running engines, hunting for people to get in, and this side walk is the main one, where hundreds of kids are going to their kindergarden. The cars make sure, that all the kids passing getting enough of exhaust gas directly into their lungs ... Aside of the spitting and other thing on the streets, which then stick onto the shoes, and than, inside the school, the kids are not allowed to chenge the shoes, as its bother the teachers too much. so the play on the floor with all the garbage they bring in on their shoes. This is not on my love list. :)
