Q: Why is China Mobile's data network so slow (or is it just me)?
I've had a China Mobile number for a while and went in a couple of weeks ago to get a data plan for my phone.
I signed up for a 20 RMB / month 200 MB plan (I only need it for email, maps). I guess the plan I got only uses the Edge network, as I never see a 3G icon on my screen. I thought CM did 3G now too. Did I get the wrong plan or is CM's 3G not "real" 3G? Are all of China's data plans so terrible and slow? Seriously, it takes like 5 minutes to load a webpage.
I've heard that China Unicom is better...can anyone attest to that? I'd rather keep my CM number, but I guess I'd be willing to switch if the speed is better and it wasn't that much more expensive.
How much does your data plan cost/speed/amount etc?

Slower than my remaining time in China is passing. Slower than a slow day in slowtown, slowvokia.
Hi..I am using China Unicom Data Plan..actually i purchased one Android cum dual SIM card phone from China Unicom..it cost me 1300 RMB ..In that 1300 RMB the whole offer was like this: 1. Talk time - 67 RMB every month for next one year, Data Usage..1GB each every six months..
If i finish my 1GB within six months then i have to pay again ..but after six month again i got 1GB..
Network is Good..speed is also good..
For China Mobile i can say they have largest user in the world therefore i think there might be too much load on their equipment so you are getting slow..
Why are you getting EDGE which is 2.5G ..for this i can say ..if you are getting EDGE at a particular place like your home or work place then it might be the problem of that particular Mobile Communication tower located in your area from which you are accessing network..
Sometimes if there are more user accessing the same tower then the speed will decrease and automatically it will come down to 2G or 2.5G from 3G..
Try China Unicom if you have dual SIM phone..

i dont know about you but im sure if you have 3g and using an iphone you can stream chinese tv without any problems, as for surfing non chinese sites everyone has this problem in china, i think google is deliberately slowed down china and at times doesnt work at all but i guess thats just what i think, back at home google is one of the fastest site to load up since the home page has s uch a simple design
Because they are short staffed at the censorship office processing your details. ..it takes time to track everything you you write and say or go and buy ....big brother needs a helper or two
