Q: Why China? Why live here?

Everyone has different reasons...personally I came here because I had to and learned to like it (ok, some thiings).

For all the people here (mostly teachers), what made you decide, desire to come here? Why not Korea or Japan, Singapore or Malaysia?

Work... the cheap manufacturing has US companies wanting to produce their products here, but they have to pay to keep someone here to keep an eye on the Chinese or quality goes right out the window.

thedude:

This is exactly why I am here...Cheers!

Experience. I decided to do a career change into something I always had some abilitiy to do (and started getting the right qualifications for) - so, to get the experience I need to work elsewhere in the world, I came here first. China would take someone's cat if it was brought up in an English speaking country!

Besides, China does (or at least, DID) have some great things about it!

I should be leaving here end of this academic year...to head to another great country (and have other people pay for it).

Well, I do plan on going to Korea, but I came to China first because it was easier to get a job. I have also been here before, and liked it during my visit. Although when I come again, I will choose to live in a bigger city.

Because I think being able to speak Mandarin will be a huge asset to me in life . I studied in the states but the best way to really improve is to go where the language is spoken .... China !

For me was FAMILY VALUES give your child the best education you can Chinese people have so much patience and time for childrenAnd family comes first these virtues have gone in the West

DaBen:

Family virtues I might be able to agree with (the whole family being more important than even the spouse is impressive).... but education? only if that means being able to memorize what is placed in front of you. China is one of the worst if you want your child's education to include thinking outside of the box.

Aside from the fact that my girl is Chinese, I didn't like the job offers I got from Georgia (the country) and Thailand.

Well it was for work, a change in lifestyle. I also wanted to get away from the corporate BS I had experienced over the past 20 years. "Moving Forward!" What a crap term.

Then there was the Political Correctness that was and continues ruining the country. I just didn't think I would end up in the other extreme of that!!
