Q: Why did the government stop heating in northern China so early??

I live in Beijing, and the temperatures during the day have gone up, but they do get really low at night.

Over the past 5-7 days, the government has reduced (or stopped completely) central heating, as there has been no more heating in my apartment. I know other people here in the city have been in the same situation.

Does this make any sense? Why do this?

Please, do not waste your time trying to find a reason for actions of Government Officials.  Probably it got a little warmer, and being daytime decided to shut it off.

It is better to find how to survive than the reason for actions.  If I may, I suggest to you to get an electrical blanket.  I bought one after one friend suggested it to me last October.  Ihave a king size bed (200 x 190 cms), mine has dual controls and cost me 275 Rmb.  I am sure that now at end of winter they will be discounted more.

One difference you should be aware of.  Abroad, most electrical blankets you use to cover yourself with (or over your body).  Here in China, electrical blankets are placed over mattress, covered by the lower sheet on the bed, and you lie on top and cover yourself with the quilt.  One thing do, they are nice, and I slept warn and cozy this winter.

Is there a time that they shut off the heat every spring, whether it is warm or not? It is nearly the end of March. I wouldn't know, because here in southern China, there is no such thing as central heat in apartments.

There is an official date set up for when central AC gets shut off.  It's usually between March 15th and the Spring Equinox (21st/22nd) for heat. It's some sort of power saving rationale by the government.  They do the same thing for AC in September as well.  On a side note, I thought this might be handy for everyone.  I just found it from a few years  back and I had saved it on a USB stick I forgot about:

Learn to Read Your AC Remote:

Air conditioner – 空调 – kōng tiáo

Remote control – 遥控器 – yáo kòng qì

Automatic – 自动 – zì dòng

It has really helped me a lot, hopefully it will do the same for you!

Not sure why that isn't formatting with spaces, but hope it helps anyway.

Hey Tibbles. The new editor's bar is the culprit here. We'll get it fixed as soon as possible.
