Q: Why did so many foreign internet websites fail in China?

yahoo, amazon, google, etc...

is it just because of banning?

one they don't konw chinese people.

Yes, it's banning. See, China will wait and if a website is doing well, they start their own version through theft, then ban the other one and call it "national security" so no one can call it protectionism, which it most certainly is.
