I don't think Chinese households have adapted in that sense yet. It might happen in another 10 years or so. Here is to hoping so! I have to wash my dishes by hand, but I'm not complaining too much. It does help me burn some calories after my meals. (

At home I have plate sets of 8, I have 7 frying pans, many pots. In China who has alot of dishes to wash? The average person probably has a one burner stove, 2 pots and a few dishes. Why would they need one?

Have you ever seen the way Chinese nannies and such wash their dishes? After the dishes are done being "rinsed" with water on the inside, they're still dirty and have food stuck to them. They don't think the dishes really need washing, so why buy a washing machine when you can just rinse them out?

also, the fact that many have their personal kitchen slave lowers the motivation for spending money on a dish washer. that money is so much better spent on iPhones and cigarettes.

Gave her until August to get out. In the mean time, nobody is allowed to bother me from her side of the family.
The word on the street is that dishwashers are bad because of the detergent used.
What strikes me as decidedly dumb are the dish sterilizers. They have all the inconvenience of having to load and unload a machine, without the benefit of cleaning the things. A good dishwasher would have the same sterilizing effect, and a modern one can get amazing cleaning results using less water than what is typically needed to hand wash dishes.
It's the village mentality. If dipping the dishes worked for my grandparents it will work for me, but as I am pretty well off I will want to show off to other people that I have a dish sterilizer that ends up doubling as storage because my kitchen has a shit design.

dishwashers are the most useless appliance in the home. I have one in my house and we never use it. It is a waste time, a waste of water and the dishes need to be rinsed off before putting them in the dish washer. So why use it?
I have a 19yrs old Dish washer at Home but I will have to upgrade soon as He is moving out of home next month

mine is completely unusable. it was installed wrong, who needs a dishwasher on the sofa.

You beat me to the punch. I was gonna say that dishwashers are quite common in China: College kids living on 1,000 kuai a month (if they're lucky) or college graduates without a job who need to effin eat every day. They'll wash your dishes for you for a paltry sum and if you are a Good Samaritan, you'll pay them a bit more than the going rate.
Meanwhile, some guys are driving (badly) Bentleys and Lamborghini around town...

I get by just fine without a store bought dishwasher ... no problem ....... I do miss a decent size/huge fridge and another couple burners would be nice.............. all about these silly Chinese kitchens ..........
Why invest in a machine when you can just spit on the plates then wipe them with a floor rag?

My parents in law (chinese) have a dishwasher, but they don't use it (it was part of the furniture when they bought the house). I think because they find it a waste of water. They put the washed dishes in the dishwasher to let them dry...
