It's so unfair: in the west when i see a clothing item or pair of shoes I like, it's almost always made in china. Why can't you buy any of these things here? I thought China would be shopping heaven but boy was I wrong. All that's for sale here are out-of-date, ugly clothes that no-one in the west would buy. Has anyone noticed how lame the clothes in H&M here are compared to the west?
I guess the reason is the clothes you see abroad are specified and designed by foreign companies to suit their particular market. The clothes you see here are designed for the Chinese market which as we all know is a completely different beast. You can get good stuff here but it is nearly always expensive.
Western clothes are made in China, but that is the only similarity with Chinese clothing. Westerner's expect a degree of quality when they buy clothing. They do not appreciate disposable clothes. So factories that produce clothes for the western market must employ quality control. This costs more money and usually prices the items out of the average Chinese person's affordability range. Chinese people can only afford to buy cheap copies of the originals. Same with shoes.
occasionally you can find overstock clothes that did not make it overseas because orders were overproduced and good quality but it is hit and miss and you have to know the right places and speak good chinese to find them , or go to hong kong to shop.
There's a higher profit margin in the lowest-cost clothes and few in the west would buy them.
I have never noticed any Chinese women looking lame.
