Q: Why do Chinese girls have a fetish for tall men?
Well, I am not tall but had no problem dating girls back home. Most of my dates were shorter than me and some were my hight. When I arrived to China I found that the big majority of the girls here are shorter than me but they wont date me because I am not tall enough...

If you are under 5 feet tall, you do have a height issue wherever you may reside. (I hear Romania and Bulgaria are looking for short people to staff travelling circus shows...)
If you live in the north of China, people tend to be taller than in the south. So, move south.
I beg to differ with you about the "fetish". I've never run across such an animal in China. A bit harsh the choice of words, wouldn't you say?
Hey! Maybe it isn't your height, after all, that dissuades the local lasses from dating you. (Think: personality issues, bad breath, language barriers, baggy trousers with soiled bottoms, holes in T-shirts, etc.)

Assure them that your wallet is big enough for them though you are not physically tall. You will see what their reaction will be.

I am 1.67 tall (5.5). And as I said before, I had no problem dating girls back home. I graduated from one of the best universities in China, have a good job and no personality problems 
(I sure hope so). I am really easy to get along, clean, non smoker bla bla bla, but when a Chinese girl see how tall I am she immediately rejects me, even if she is shorter than me. I once had a Chinese girl saying to me that she wants her kids to be tall so that they wont have any problems in the future... sad indeed. Anyway, I did try to convince one of the girls to date me as I told her that I earn a lot of money but that just felt wrong

Re your height, you are not a midget. 1.67 is a respectable height. Tall is not always a desirable characteristic. Just hope you don't have an inferiority complex. It takes much, much more than height to woo a girl. Look at Napoleon. He was 1.70. How did he get Josephine?

Napoleon was of average height for his time. The common myth that he was short was due to the French system of height measurement being reported in English media at the time, without converting to the English system.
5'5" is pretty short for European/American men, but actually very slightly taller than the average Chinese man. And while it is possible to birth children taller than 5'5" with a father of that height and a shorter mother, it is not as likely as it would be with a taller father.
On the bright side, it is expected that you will live longer than your taller counterparts. Short men live 5 years longer than their tall counterparts, and very short men live about 7 years longer than very tall men.
It's because they like to climb them like a Koala bear climbs a tree. I thought this was a global thing actually.. . 'Tall, dark and handsome"? Well here I think you can exclude dark but besides that....
i think for a foreigner , you must fit a certain image they have in their mind. remember they are heavily influenced by hollywood movies and other silly stereotypes. of course the same does not apply to chinese men. but, you should not have a big problem, unless you are really scrawny looking.
another thing is, chinese people are heavily influenced by what their peers think. chinese people are rude and especially to each other. if she brings a short guy out to dinner to meet her friends, many would spend the entire evening talking and laughing about it.

True enough...... and we all know that if any shape or size of tasty foreigner is ever subjected to the all important Chinese dinner, well that simply gives the Chinese guests (other than chatting about their own mundane existence ad nauseam or focusing on what somebody just did as in "oh, you are not eating enough seaweed"), some fresh meat to criticize, ridicule, poke fun at, explain things to, pry about, take pics with/of, stare at, ganbei with, offer smokes to, whisper about.....you get my drift.

Believe me or not,one of my friend's BF is so short like 158 or something ,we have never or would never laughed at him because of his height, He's a nice guy and makes us laugh each time we meet.
Losers exist everywhere,they will laugh at you no matter how you look like,tall,short,fat ,slim or skinny. I pay no attention to them.

The women like tall men because they wear platform shoes with 6 inch heels, but next year it will 9 inch heels, followed by 12 inch heels, then fashion and women will crash and flat heeled shoes will be in.

At 1.73m, I'm not that much taller than you, but haven't met any of the trouble you're describing. I'm in my second, committed, long-term relationship since coming to China....and during both I've had to resist the temptation to stray, just too many good looking girls/women wanting a "foreigner friend" 
. I suggest that if a girl just comes right out and says she won't date you because of your height, then that's probably not the kind of girl you'd want to be dating anyways. For me, I'd feel the same way about a girl that suggests I cover up the initial onset of grey hair I've got.....nope, not gonna do it 
Myself,a Chinese woman,168 tall .Let me tell you my answer,The main reason why I prefer tall guys is, cause I am pretty tall as a Chinese woman from South and I like to wear high heels.Plus I feel more secure with tall guys.That's it.
I have a few friends who's into short guys but not Many.
What I usually hear from Chinese girls why they like tall guys over short guys? It's Because they don't want their children shorter ,it seems the chance will be limited If he's a tall guy compared to short guys.
I am sorry for that, Hope you can find a girl who doesn't care about your height.
Height should not be an issue between Love. If she cares,Probably she's not the right one for you and You should go for others.

Chinese people have a fetish for tall people in general. It's drilled into them from the time they're very young, all the way until it's time to get married. Height honestly doesn't matter, but don't tell that to Mama Wang who won't let her son marry a short girl.
You have to understand that these are the same people who think stocking up on salt will save them from Japanese radiation.
They think that a short woman will give their son short children, and it isn't worth it for him. Ridiculous. My wife is 145cm (4'9") while I'm about 203cm (6'8"). All the guys passed on my wife except one, but he was a super jackass who wanted nothing more than a slave, and a son.
In fact, when my wife and I first met, she was worried that she couldn't give me tall children. She said to me, "I'm so sorry, but I can't give you tall children." This crap was drilled into her from the beginning. My wife is short due to malnutrition since she often went without food as a young girl, and especially while growing.
You want tall kids? It doesn't matter if your parents are short or tall; feed them a good diet, don't let them go hungry, and they'll get taller. No, a diet of vegetables is NOT a good diet. You need fat and meat -- lots of it.
They missed out on what I'd call a perfect wife. Seriously. She far exceeds my expectations. Look at it this way: it's filtering out all the superficial and dumb girls who aren't even worth your time.

Reading this reminds me of a conversation I often have with one of my best Chinese male friends. He is now considering whether or not he wants to marry a girl. Everything about her fits perfectly.. except for her height. He is 1.70cm and she is roughly 1.48cm and he stresses that his son will be at a disadvantage because he may be born short. I often try to convince him that proper nutrition and a good physician can help maximize the height and physique of his potential offspring. I also try to remind him that more than just bear his children, he should be looking at this girl for her heart and mind and the lifetime they will spend together, because how ever tall she is- it was not her choice. Simply a matter of genetics and growth environment. It's... a discussion we often have.. I am not sure how convinced he feels.
As for myself I am 1.96cm and am a very single man. I do get lots of looks, but a tall freckled, red-haired man with geeky glasses, and of my stature walking around, will have that affect on people. Apparently not the ladies though.. however that could be simply because when not on business I like to wear a worn out black hoodie, jeans, and blast old-school hip-hop and rock.. so maybe they think I'm some poor slacker (which I am).
