Q: Why do Chinese girls never wear dresses /skirts in the winter?

Is it a fashion to wear pants? I don't mind women wearing pants, but when winter comes you can hardly see a dress or a skirt in my class.

Maybe like most Chinese, they have no central heating. Everyone I write to now is wearing coats indoors. They seem amazed that my house in Canada is hot.

artdio:

I tried many times to explain that my house in Canada as a furnace and all rooms are heated at one time.

TedDBayer:

I designed and built my own house. I exceeded the requirements for R2000 construction, a well insulated house. I've found the last few years unless it drops to -20*C, I can heat the house using one or two small electric space heaters. I also allowed for passive solar heating with an overhang that shades the house in summer. Low E argon windows really make a difference, but I wish we had triple glazed ones like out west, just a bit better. The houses I see built in China are not insulated, mainly just brick construction. I've seen alot of houses that either have no windows or they are broken. No weather stripping on doors and windows.

Are the classrooms warm enough for skirts? Do your students live in dorms? I doubt there's heat in the dorms or if they're heated they turn it off at 11pm.

I guess we all ignore fashion when we're cold. I know I do, but I'm not fashionable to begin with.

In Heilongjiang few years ago, girls wore shorts, over thick, wool stockings. Temperature was around -30*C. No skirts then, eitherno

.
In my 'humble' opinion, shorts are one of the sexiest parts of female dress! In summertime, of course.

Last winter I saw shorts and miniskirts worn with thick stockings and boots. I couldn't wait for spring.

Girls around these parts wear skirts/shorts year round.  But when it gets cold, they'll double or triple up on the leggings/stockings.

Yes, but  1 .you wear fur-fringed shorts.

                 2. There're woolen tights, stockings, leggings + long woolen dresses + long coats + knee - long boots.

               3. What about babies? They freeze  their butts ( & not only butts) off.

The shortshorts with stockings and furry boots make up for the lack of skirt.

It's winter, c'mon.  Come south to GZ if you need your fix of ladies in skirts and dresses.  They wear them year around, though they do switch to leggings and tights when it gets cold.
