I can't for the life of me find one, even at wal-mart or carrefour. They all run on batteries, and few are the kind of digital clock radio for beside your bed that every house has three of back home.
While I honestly do not know the true answer, I will venture to guess that the reason is "USAGE" of electricity. Have you noticed how they turn everything off because it consumes electricity ?. Some TV have a setting where the electronics will stay warm to avoid condesation on welds and future failures. They unplug the TV from the wall because it is "TOO EXPENSIVE". Have you noticed that light bulbs at any home do not shed more light that maybe a candle ?. First thing I did when I moved to my apartment was to replace all light bulbs with higher wattage ones, to have better illumination. All my Chinese friends think I am crazy. And maybe I am, but back home I paid from $ 500 to $ 800 per month for electricity service, here with my "crazy manners" I spend a bit over 200 Rmb every 2 months. So, I am still saving money !.
If you want it so badly, buy it operated with batteries. Then get rechargable batteries and enjoy your music and radio. Or if not good enough, get it and take it to an electric shop and have a 240/12 rectifier installed at the entranjce and connected to the leads off the batteries.
electricity is not continuous, homes, schools places of work
What Happy says + there is also a general "fear" of "radiation" from electrical appliances.
For a clock radio to be trustworthy, it needs to have a battery backup.
Power is not always reliable in places, even Shanghai due to overusage.
