When i moved into my last accommodation, the dust was so thick i asked a local friend was there such a thing as a vacuum cleaner i could rent. I spent the best part of 2 days cleaning all the places that hadn't been cleaned in years...... no

andy74rc:

Dust is the easy part. Long ignored cooking oil and mold aren't.

If i have to move to a new place, I'm willing to pay a premium if needed and look for new/renewed ones. In that case, there will be a huge amount of concrete dust and wall paint to be removed, but at least I do not have to remove somebody else's dirt and go broke in buying Swipe bottles.

Not to mention that hiring an aye to do the clean up before moving is just a waste of time, money and liver.

The cumminist heritage is that the concept of maintenance doesn't exist. When you live in a farming village in a house that is owned by the gubbermint, why would you try to take care of it, when it falls apart your dear leaders will provide a new place for you. ok, so reality may have changed but people remain careless.

andy74rc:

well, by logic (huge statement here, I know..) because as long as I live in, I'd like to live in a clean healthy place?

I gotta be the only dumb ass giving back the apartments and houses I rent in better shape than I find them. Unless for the parts that inevitably fall apart without chance to get them fixed unless a major tear down to bricks and rebuilt is involved (which usually is needed every after year).

Scandinavian:

no you are not. Out landlord has directly said that he doesn't like renting to Chinese people for this reason. They trash the places, the expats take care of the place. The landlord called at some point wanting to increase our rent and deposit as someone had run away from another apartment and basically left it in ruins. My wife got her bitch on and told her she could come look at how we live blah blah  blah. After that call the rent actually dropped by a couple of hundreds per month.

andy74rc:

Well, actually same with our landlord of the office. We rented brand new and he was very happy to have it rented to foreigners, because of the good experience he had with the other one he's got. It has been easy to nail the price down for 3 years at a very reasonable rate, considering the location (cheaper than similar size offices half destroyed 5 years old).

Honestly I doubt they know the aircon has filters.

Then there's the cost. I thought the aircon filters for a split system were outside so I arranged for someone to come and clean the filters before I started the damn thing up this summer. I wasn't prepared to hang out of a 5th story window to do the job.

Imagine my surprise when 3 guys turned up to clean the filters. Even more surprise when they undid the panels on the inside unit and pulled out some filters! Silly me. If I knew that I would have done them myself.

Adding to all the surprises was the cost of 100RMB to do the job and probably explained why 3 people had to do the job - 1 to sit on my sofa and do nothing, 1 to pull out the filters and 1 to wash them!

crying

andy74rc:

Why if I know the aircons have filters, and you know the aircons have filters, THEY do not know?

I can't blame people for not caring when you rent a place and nothing it it is yours. Need to move, just pack your clothes (or maybe not) and move.

andy74rc:

Still, if you live in a place, make it comfortable and safe for yourself at least.

That's a good question it could be that the design of place is not like the one's you are used to. I know the places that I stayed weren't like back home. We don't have filters here the blue screens that we can replace.

How do you know they don't? Do you go into everyone's home and inspect whether it's been cleaned or not? I for one clean my air conditioners regularly and I know many others who do too. Stop making general accusations like this as if you know what China's 1.3 billion people are doing.
