I think it may have something to do with bad luck.

I believe in the past people were offered a dose of alcohol after a meal before they were executed. Therefore asking someone to have a drink after dinner might be impolite.

Of course I could be wrong.

I have not seen this at any time, any place anywhere in China.

After dinner most Chinese men play cards and drink plenty of rice wine.

yes i have seen it........ many of them do not drink it because they will get absent from their job, one day left with out leave is a penality. they need to pay for it then or may be their salary is deducted.
