Q: Why do Chinese people the credibility of blacks people is low?

I've been experiencing these thing  many occasions. But I can't really understand what's really going on.

this happens a lot around us daily.

Especially:  on our business sites, work units,  making friends, and even getting into relationship with a Chinese.

They think black are not worthy to be trusted.

There was a time I and a Chinese company discussing business partnership.  They had a meeting and came out that blacks are not reliable.  they don't trust blacks.  even if they get into partnership, there will be a time they will be murdered and take their worth. the credibility is very low for blacks.  This made me think order wise !

Another incident happen when a black guy met a Chinese girl and they fall in love.  The family  Opposed claiming the the credibility of blacks is very low. if they become couples, one day she will be murdered.

Can anybody else tell me what exactly is happening?

Welcome to Earth.
The credibility of blacks everywhere outside of Africa and the Caribbean is low.
This is why we have to fight harder to make ourselves credible. Do some really good things in the world for a change instead of constantly crying racism or discrimination because whether you like it or not, humans will always generalize and stereotype other humans. It's just the way it is.

The same reason they say white people all live in a censorship-driven totalitarian state. Or why they accuse east Indians of killing or aborting female babies. Almost all of their complaints about this group or that group mirror their own social problems, which has always been a common way for people to deal with the Other (just like Victorians used to describe all of China as if it were a shifty neighbourhood in London). Untrustworthy, you say? No credibility you say? Bad friends you say? Violent crime on the rise, you say?.

I've heard all that garbage in English Corners, spewed by Chinese who've never even seen a black guy. On the other hand, all those problems are extremely frequent in China. Burning the Other as an effigy is a comfortable way for Chinese to talk about uncomfortable topics they have to deal with every day.

I think that its more complicated than simple racism, although that's certainly part of it (I've heard many Chinese claim that black people have a specific smell). Some of it has to do with existing interactions with Africans. In second and third tier cities it isn't uncommon to fine people from Kenya or Cameroon posing as African-Americans or African-Canadians. Even if its a small percentage of black teachers, its casts doubt on those that aren't lying about their nationality. And some of it is economic. In twenty years or so manufacturing is going to start to shift out of China once the value of their currency and their standards of living have risen to a certain point. When that happens those factories will start moving to places like East Africa. Its already started to happen. So Chinese executives look at potential places to move a factory, and they look at countries like Malawi or  Zimbabwe and the political situation, leaders and cultural differences give them pause.

It seems in china that stereotypes play a big part in how they view other cultures, simply because they dont know firts hand and have little to no experience of interacting with other cultures. So where do they get stereotypes from?.... maybe the media, seems mostly likely source. Maybe blackmen are portrayed in movies and such as dangerous gangsters? We have to admit that this is, or was, a popular image for young black guys... think rappers/music videos. movies such as boyz n the hood etc.

These stereotypes would explain why they think that all americans carry guns all the time and that all english are gentlemen.

As for black folks, unfortunately alot of those that do find themselves to china (at least in my area) tend to spend their time bulk buying fake items, generally harassing and trying to chat up anything female around walmart, and selling weed outside bars. This probably doesnt do anything to enhance the image of wholesome law abiding black men.

i think that because the blacks are described as evil person in violent movies with guns.in the second place,in china, sterotype plays a big part in ways how chinese people view other cultures, like englishmen are gentle, america is powerful, indians speak english with very strong accent.

but i'd like to say not every chinese think that way, from my oppion,we shold not jugde a person by his apperance, only a long-time contact can u draw your conclusion to someone.respect should be mutual

Well you can't really blame others for that. Even they talk about it sometimes. They know that at least in the states the two races with the lowest scores are blacks and latinos. They also have fewer blacks and latinos graduating and the majority of gang members are consisted of those two races. I went to a predominantly black highschool at least 90%. I know what it's like and I have lots of friends that are black. But that's the reality you can't blame others. If you ever meet someone a large community they will tell you that they need to work hard because of this statistic and the way people view them because of that statistic.

In the East coast, many hate the term "Latino" and prefer "Hispanic". In the rest of the States many prefer "Latino' and hate the term "Hispanic". To avoid pissing off either side I use both "Hispanic-Latino".

I know of some black Africans who claim to be Americans so they can get English teaching jobs. This could be at a small scale but it can't be ignored. If this is found out shouldn't we expect the Chinese to look at black people as crooks? I am always embarrassed when I know a fellow black African is putting on a fake American identity to get a job. It's embarrassing, really! I wonder how some people manage to do this - I mean to keep on reminding themselves that at no point should they give away their real identity...My lie would be given away within seconds, not minutes.

kchur:

So do continental Europeans. I'm working with a French guy, a Russian and a Greek and the moment, all of whom picked random American cities to tell the students where they're from. The boss actually prefers it because he can pay them less but still get someone who looks foreign, which satisfies 95% of the customers.

This, combined with your complaining about schedule changes, tell me you're pretty green around the gills here. No offense but will your next thread be about chopsticks?

yes blame Africans for chinese racist views towards blacks. these racist veiws against blacks started long before many blacks set foot in china. racism is one of the many fruits ignorance. and chinese people are thoroughly made ignorant by their govt. what are your thoughts about that bona???

Bona:

That's true Crimo......ignorance really breeds countless problems  and this is just one of them. It's not just the Chinese...in the 70's, 80's before the Chinese found themselves in large numbers in my country, there was some serious & ridiculous prejudice against the Chinese. But that is slowly dying out due to exposure. However, one thing that may be difficult to go is the view that Chinese are 'fakes' because of the proliferation of low quality made-in-china products sold in developing countries. I guess deliberate efforts by both blacks ( in the way they conduct themselves) and the Chinese may help send some of these negative views, though this may take time to materialise.

Enough with all the bullshit guys, lets rise to the occasion and make things happen. Am damn proud of my Cameroonian heritage and every where i went to in China, i identified myself as a proud African. My students used to call me Etoo every time i presented myself on a playing field for football games. It was a stigma i turned into pride and before i left that school, i instilled into them the true image of where i came from. I had 8 students enrol in Cameroon for University Studies out of the 430 i taught in High school. That was my legacy.

I dropped out of University and went to that country at a very early age of 20 and because of my young age, went through a lot of difficulties. There were times i spent cold winter nights in the streets of Hong Kong and Shenzhen while waiting for my train because i couldn't afford a hotel. Even though i am returning to China this september as a British Citizen, there's no way i will ever identify myself as British, for that is an adopted 'thing'! I am Proud to be cameroonian and if there's any one who will paint me 'the bad one' because i come from Cameroon, then he can just kiss my back side! One thing i have learned is, i don't ever want to work for a Chinese person, i could partner with them but not work for them and trust me i worked my ass off to get here today. Went back to school after 4 years in China, completed my degree in a good University in the UK, opened up my own company and going back to China a different man, aged 28, barely 4 years after leaving. Now i aint trying to get dramatic on all them black brothers out there, but that's what you should emmulate. Make things happen, for you, not for them, then they'll take you serious!

If you were a true, proud Cameroonian, you wouldn't be sporting a UK passport.  People who are proud of where they come from don't abandon it.

I had an africern americern friend from uganda once, back in Alberta. His whole family died of aids and war so he got the refugee status and he managed a very successful Subway downtown. He always had heaps of money that he mostly gave to his church and his friends. He lived in a tiny little room in what used to be a hospital (rent $300 a month) and he would just sit there watching all kinds of movies about the bible all day (he had a big pile of bible casettes), and sometimes give me a food and talk about Jesus.

Once he gave me porkchops two days before payday. Best porkchops I ever ate. Now if that ain't credibility I don't know what is.

That was about 12 years ago, in between high school and uni when I thought I could make it on my own working in a warehouse. I was so young and stupid I had no way to contextualize it, and just thought he was a cool guy who was weird. The post above + getting drunk + a student telling me black people cause all crime in Canada gave me that memory. Seems like a weird thing to post now.

I do believe the Chinese are as close minded as any country I've been to, and their knowledge on actual news that is always by what their government tells them. I do believe this is changing, with more Chinese going abroad and vpns so Chinese can get the actual real news from around the world
