If they don't feel comfortable taking it, whatever their reason is, then they shouldn't take it. Lots of boyfriends want them to take the pill "for convenience", and it's totally preposterous.

Some don't want to take the pill for medical reasons, others don't feel reassured. How can you have your fun if you stress that the pill might not work?

Granted, the rumors about the pill is largely exaggerated, as far as i could notice, but it led women to have legitimate reason not to take the pill.

I know alva, it's crazy! My Chinese girlfriend was exactly like that in the beginning, too! She would think it can be harmful for her health. I proved it to her by showing her 'Merican studies and statistics that proved she was wrong. It was during dinner time at my place I remember. She got mad, we started arguing. She then took my glass of wine and gulped it. She got pretty drunk, fell sick. While I put on her the bed, I explained to her why she was wrong, and now she takes the pill. I'd always have to remind it to her though.

And Wenna is right... yet wrong again. A lot of people settle here and find long lasting girlfriend, I would never cheat on her and she neither. So diseases are out of the question. But lately, my Chinese girlfriend asked to take care of everything alone, because i'd always have to remind her to take the pill. My Chinese girlfriend is always daydreaming! That's why I thought about crushing pills and putting it in her bottle of wine everyday, just to be sure! I really really love her.

As Njord said, many are terrorized it will cause them health issues in the future, not just in view of pregnancy, but also their personal basic health. Even my girlfriend tells me crazy stories I have a hard time buying...like taking pills is really bad, and if you take the plane, then the consequences will be disastrous blablabla

But hey, it could very well be that some past scandals forever tarnished the image of pills in China...who knows?

As wenna7 said, the pill can protect you from pregnancy, but you don't know what kind of diseases can come crawling up your body. Condoms are safest!

It's just that people are so careless! A bad luck night can get you itches and discomfort for the rest of your life! And then the guilt of risking your partner's health for the sake of your own enjoyment. Condoms, my friend, are the safest.

I don't blame some Chinese women from from being scared of the pill. Even if the real thing is harmless there are so many scary fakes out there and no way to really control which one you are putting into your body. Not that all of them have that train of thought.

If anyone cares: IUDs are amazing. You can get them that last up to 15 years and chemical free ones that last 10. Course that still means participating in scary Chinese medicine if you get it here.

I asked one of my Chinese female friends about contraceptives for woman in China, she told me that it is something that shouldn't be talked about and it is up to the man to use protection, not the woman. Some of my other friends heard this too, so I think it comes to a lack of education and understanding of contraceptives for woman in china and also thinking that it is the mans responsibility (which it is not, it is defiantly both the mans and the woman's responsibility).
