Q: Why do girls here have the same high-pitched nagging voice?

Maybe I've had bad experiences, but be it through the paper-thin hotel walls, on the street or in the hallways, whenever I hear a girl nagging, it's done in a plaintive, reedy, almost unbearable tone of voice that makes me want to shoot something. Is the objective to drive their bfs mad, or do they almost naturally tune to that pitch when they go in nag-mode?

My apartment has really poor sound insulation, so I have to deal with this all the time.

As most children grow up as the sole child in China, they all like to whine. However, it seems to me that the females are practicing this art  [of whining] even after they are 'grown up' [hmmm]. They like to remain 'little princesses for a long time and thus continue to talk in a baby voice - thinking it is so cute - because it also usually gets them what they wanted in the first place. Take a look on the street how many adult women have cutesy little dolls or other 'sweet little toys' hanging from their [sometimes expensive] purses/handbags, or, look at how they dress. It is amazing for how long they get away with this, even after having a child themselves.

This is actually a common problem within the Asian community, the reason for it being that Asian women have shorter vocal cords, their larynx being the size of a quarter inch of dental floss, causing what is know as the myearshurt syndrome or weazlewhine-shuthefkup effect when they reach an overly excited state.

I'll never understand while after all these years, women are still being bred that can speak. Genetic engineering has been around long enough, look what it has done for mArtiAn and me.

It's an affectation that they adopt when they are children to let you know that they are scared or nervous, and then again when they are adults to sound cute. But hey, look on the bright side, they could talk like Japanese women.

That behavior is considered a turn on for Chinese men because it enhances gender roles. It makes the women seem more feminine and makes the men feel needed. Otherwise, the women seem to manly. I read about this recently.

On another note, that specific high-pitch in the voice used to really irritate me when I worked in a call center in the States. It was only the Asian women, and particularly Chinese women, who would sound like that. It hurt my ears. However, I've not once been irritated by it since I came to China, but have also not heard it at such a register as over the phone, either.

Some men sound this way too. They looks like pip-squeaks & sound like them too. I sometimes have a trouble to tell men from women.

One of the dudes I work with is exactly like what your describing. My wife once told me that its okay, even desirable to have a delicate man, but you can't be a rough or assertive women.
