Q: Why do lots of Chinese women wear scarves over their heads when they ride bycycles.
If you referring to them around the mouths.. its to try and breach better in the traffic with all the pollution..
I mean where they cover their whole head, like they were a beekeeper.

Not only do they cover their heads, some wear some sort of long sleeved shirt, and what looks like a type of oven mitts over their hands. They want to have pale skin, so they avoid the sun while they are driving. It may sound extreme, but one of my arms is tanner than the other, just from an hour or less of sun exposure a week from driving.
To protect their faces from the sun and pollution. It's hard to carry an umbrella and ride a bike in crazy traffic at the same time (though I've seen it).
may be its all Muslims. i guess their religion is really strict
Not muslims. It is likely to be the sun protection reasons as a few have suggested.
