Do you mean century eggs? Honestly, it is one of the most disgusting foods Westerners ever saw. The survey does not say it is the most disgusting food in the world, just one of the more disgusting foods we've seen. Believe me, there are other foods that are much worse looking. In fact, I'd say that a foreigner would be more likely to try a century egg than a large spider.

Pretty gross,,, but not the grossest.

The grossest thing anybody ever decided to eat was 'Balut'. I'm sure China eats it too, just don't know the name.

All I know is u gotta be one hungry mf'er to eat that !

Xpat.John:

I remember Balut.  A group of friends and I had a bet that we would match beer for beer and the first one who got up for a piss had to return and eat the balut sitting in the middle of the table.  I can still feel the feet scratching their way down my throat.

It's the look of it. A black egg makes us think of a rotten egg.

I've just asked the wife and she says i've eaten it and liked it. I have no recollection whatsoever. Maybe I was drunk.

I have never had pidan because I can't get past the look of it. Maybe if I was blindfolded I would be able to eat it.

Pidan looks horrible, sure thing, but it's not that bad, as for me. Tastes similar to regular boiled eggs.

chenhan:

yeah, pidan is the most underrated dish!it is really innocent to be notorious just for its appearance.

i eat it about once or twice a month when i go out with co-workers, its not bad but when my girlfriend buys them from the market i open them up and>>> WOW its not the taste that throws me for a loop, its the smell, the ammonia kills me every time, but if i can get it past my nose, its smooth sailing from there. I usually eat it with some sort of pepper that reminds me of a pimento from back home. i enjoy them very much and after reading and talking about them, maybe i will have that with my dinner. (i like to put the eggs and peppers in my soup)

Color, smell, taste and texture. That's why I think it's gross.

Answer of the DayMORE >>
A: No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa
A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
