Q: Why do people in China air their underwear in public places?
I know there're no laundry dryers in China, so people have to air their laundry outside. I see knickers & bras hanging on the trees, out of the windows & anywhere you can imagine. Don't they feel embarrassed when others see their underwear?
Many of them have no other place to hang it.

You can air it on the balcony below the window, so the people outside don't see it.
The non-sexualized undergarments are most often the ones hung in public places. The plain white cotton "practical" underwear. That is to say, no they are probably not that embarrassed by it. Conversely, you're not often going to see a thong or frilly laced bra hanging outside where everyone can ogle it.
Just a personal observation. Feel free to disagree.
I saw bras in a componud I used to live in before. Drying out in the sun, clothes hanging everywhere, underwear, socks, bras, etc.

Can't exactly explain why not, but I feel that underwear is your private stuff. It's like you make up your bed ,you cover it with a comforter or you close your bedroom door when friends are visiting.

Humans come in two forms, male and female! Underwear is designed for one or the other! It can hardly be private when 50% of humanity has similar needs and / or underwear.

....it's because people have not realized they are not living in a village anymore
People routinely let their kids crap and pee in the street so I don't see how hanging your underwear out the window would raise any eyebrows.
Why do u keep your eyes on the hanging underwear in public place?
I don't keep my eyes on it, it hangs just under my nose.

Non of you have ever been to Italy or the Italian neighborhoods in New York. What is the problem anyway. Everyone knows what underwear is.
China reminds me of when I lived in Italy (the South that is). I lived in Calabria, not sure if that's Europe really...Yelling people, littering, nothing works like it should...very similar
