Q: Why do people post questions anonymously here?

After all, you are using an avatar and a pseudonym. What's there to hide, even if you are asking a sensitive question?

i only posted once anonymously - by accident. it was an innocuous question.

i have no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed (well maybe ) by the questions i have posted and accept if i am called out on anything i write.

while we all have avatars, which to some degree are anonymous, we can at least be identified by our posts.

Cuz they are chickens or afraid of big brother.

Perhaps for good reason, though the anonymous button isn't much of a protection.

I see several reasons
 * Do not intend to participate on a regular basis, don't want to bother creating a profile when there is the super-duper quick 'anonymous' option.
 * Same as a above, but just pure laziness
 * To be sure to not be recognized by a relative/friend
 * To avoid shame/loss of face
Assuming human to be rational, false assumption Laughing out loud

9 times out of 10 it is a troll or someone posting a made-up story.

some did it to gather information about the frequent posters. I think robk admitted that in his 'internet marketing kit' topic.

Others, who knows?

The option is just too easy to select, and people are rightly worried that their comments might have repercussions. Some regular members might criticise their comments, and see a pattern that causes their online identity to suffer embarassment. It could be even worse if an overeager wumao decides to do a human flesh search, to hurt the poster in RL.

I have adopted a habit of re-using my online name everywhere on the internet. It helps me to find old things I want to look up from past discussions. It does rely on me having a character that is robust enough to withstand scrutiny, and I've been compelled to defend myself on occasion:

When I first posted on eChinacities, I also cicked the anonymous button a few times. But we should realize that it's just an illusion. The guest number is tied to your profile, so your comments are always traceable. If someone *replies* to you, then his/her identity is revealed in the messages list in your profile. If anything, anonymity just calls extra attention to your identity, and the false sense of security just renders you more susceptible to Online Disinhibition Effect. We should always be aware that our internet persona and RL identity cannot be 100% safely separated. So, don't be a GIFT, just moderate your own comments, or others will do it forcibly for you!

To save face. I've only posted 1 question as anonymous, because I didn't want anyone to know I was the one asking the question as it was a potentially touchy subject that could cause people to see me differently, and possibly, in negative way. But then I took it off anonymous after PhilBravery called me out (I love you man lol) and I realized that anonymous questions serve no community purpose except to perpetuate trollmanship.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
