One can only guess but I assume it is because they may think they are better than the rest of the other places in Shanghai. Both Shanghai and Beijing were recently voted in the top 25 most expensive places to live. Attitude goes a long way and from talking to some people that's the feeling I get from them.

because they think their  @$#%^ dont stink but i have news for them they smell just as bad

Because they are stuck up, materialistic and look down on others.
My background is SH, and when guys hear I have SH background, they bolt hahah or they will brag about how rich they are to me because they've heard how SH women love money. And this was back home in Australia !
