Q: Why do the people wear jackets or coats when it's so hot?

In a class this morning 17 of the 28 students were wearing their jacket over their Polo shirt.  This is normal for them.

But it's 38c today and has been all week.

Why do they do this?

I did ask them and the best answer I got was that the jacket wearing students had a fever and that wearing the jacket and drinking hot water was what they should be doing.

Following this logic then all the citizens walking around the town wearing lots of clothes (and there's many) also have a fever.

So, two questions then;  Why do they wear such inappropriate clothing and why do so many people have fevers?

No surprises with what I think but perhaps I'm wrong and you might be able to shed some light?

17 out of 28.  No exaggeration.

If you've read this far, thanks for your attention.

Because the local witch doctor told them to. This country is run by witch doctors.

I'm hot,sweating.. therefore I have a fever and must be sick. There can be no other reason for it because people with a fever sweat and are hot and I'm hot and sweaty so I obviously have a fever (never mind the fact it's 38 degrees and you'd be sick if you weren't sweating)

As everyone knows wearing a jacket is what you do when you're sick so I'll wear a jacket......

The colleague just said while I was reading your question," do not use A/C because outside temperature is high. You will feel good at the moment but it will affect your health when you get old". LMFAO!

One reason is not to get tanned, another what I learned from friends is that "jackets/thicker clothes can help block the sun penetrate into your body". I was no more in the mood of continuing the conversation.

All the students were sitting in a hot classroom.  No sun involved.

That advice to be dressed in warm clothes and drink hot water/tea or wine is actually good advice for cold/flu healing.

Extensive sweating will lower higher body temperature, and humanoid will fell better.

Hot water+loads of garments provoke sweating. Exiting sweat is lowering overall body temperature.

Arabs on camels in Ketama, Morocco are all dressed up, and they only drink hot tea, while outside temp. is above 40*C. When they want to cool down, they let water drip onto their veins (on the inside arm, just before the beginning of the hand. I'm not sure, how do you call that body part in English). Only sti-pud foreigners drink cold drinks in desert.

If you're drunk on wine, you won't freeze to death, if staying outside in 'a lot below 0*C' temperature. Contrary, you'll freeze to death, if you're drunk on brandy (scotch, tequila too).

All homeless people are drinking wine during the winter season outside logging.

However, your 'tigers' are most likely not all sick. It's a fashion: 'if she has it, I have to have it too', so suddenly everybody has winter coat in summer time.

I think, you shouldn't ask too many Qs in the 'over-coated' class. It's better, if you replace Qs with statement: 'You're (very) hot!'

O2, o2...you're welcome!...O2, o2

BuTT....

if you don't have a cold/flu (and even if you do), then your fluid intake MUST remain high, or you'll dehydrate.

Also, wearing THICK clothing (unlike the desert nomads) means you'll be trapping heat inside, so you'll start to seriously over-heat... which is really bad!

That's what nomads do. They all dressed up in heat and they drink less liquid, because of that.

We're all running around semi-naked with glasses in our hands.

They coached me on being dressed-up and drink hot tea instead. It's the same in Israel.

I guess, their body adjust on the same, warm temp. under clothes, and they sweat less, so they need less liquid intake. Our bodies are all warmer (because of sun), and we sweat/lose liquid, so we drink more. (Ozzies ----->a lot more).
