Q: why do ppl here think every foreigner is beautiful~handsome???
Who knows, maybe for the same reason that most of them need to use glasses.......
A combination of being exotic to them (the attraction to the unknown) and being extremely exotic to them (limited standards to be able to judge against).
Plus lies like that are supposed to be shared to build up guanxi.
They don't think that every foreigner is beautiful. It is partly exotic, and the fact that they can't really distinguish us from eachother (we all look alike, the same way some people think all Asians look alike). It's also the fact that foreigners tend to fit into their beauty standards: pale skin, double eyelids, high nose bridge. As foreigners, we judge beauty differently, and there are no specific standards, it's simply a combination of many things that happens to make a person beautiful to us.
I agree with nevermind. People like something different.

All I know is when I look in the mirror when shaving I certainly don't see anything like handsome
and then I get told I am. I enjoy it even if I don't believe it. Just different perceptions I guess.
It tends to be the eyes that get commented on first, probably because they are not black or brown. So I guess it is just because we are different. It does make a nice boost to t he day to be told I'm handsome, especially from some really pretty girls who would not have given me the time of day back in the old country.
I think most of the women are at least cute to beautiful in China partly because they look exotic to me. I can see the reverse being true. What we think of as beautiful is actually a very common face. If you superimpose pictures of maybe 10 people and over lap the images, then take the common points and make a face from these points, what you will have is a common face, but will be thought as beautiful. I think we find common/familar to be easy to look at. Who is to say that having a hugh nose is not beautiful,,maybe it really is,, it's all in perspective. Like Confusis says everything has beauty, but not everyone can see it.

I can definitely tell you that in my eyes not all foreigners are handsome and beautiful. ( I'm a Chinese.)
Asians's face is more flat. While westerners have small face, high nose bridge, big eyes(different colors), long eyelash, all these fit into Chinese beauty standard. That's why most average looking westerners are classified handsome or beautiful in china.
I'm always wondering what kind of Asians will be classified handsome and beautiful in your eyes. My bf thinks that I have a flat face but still cute and pretty. So I assume he does not know how to judge an Asian.

Asians want high nose bridge, small face, white skin. Do you see a lot of whitening skin products here? Obviously, different standard. While, appearance is just outside. Personality is more important.
It's because they know how to say the words "beautiful" and "handsome". Just like they easily say, interesting, delicious, very, and all those simplistic words they learned in elementary school or middle school.
Not everyone does, but probably the one's that you come in to contact with. It's a way to be polite and in this case they may have called you beautiful or handsome, but that's just a way to be polite. It's not always what they say that they are really thinking.
Because we are really beautiful women/men ( some of us) . No smell, clean, no talk with high voice in public place, etc... And we are beautiful because of our culture ! We never lie as Chinese do to... "save their face" ...
I am foreigner woman, I was always attracted by Chinese men. Of course he must be handsome ! So , this is the point ! If he is handsome, he attract me , but is a pity, tiill now all handsome Chinese men I met, have not a good character and this this "handsome" from their faces no have any value if inside they are so ugly and lie a lot....

Do you expect any better out of handsome men back home? The good looking ones always know they're good looking, and take full advantage of it. Here's some advice: find a guy that's cute and has a great personality. He won't be the best looking, but you still find him attractive, and he won't be full of himself.

Disagree. Cute is often (always?) enough, if it isn't that's because you're 1. Not doing your duty or 2. Need another drink
If everyone is called "handsome" or "beautiful", then it loses all meaning
I see a lot of posts about exoticness - yeah I'm exotic! But I think attractiveness isn't purely down to facial features. Are foreigners attractive because they're tall for example? A lot of people like that - being tall is usually associated with being a model. Then there's wealth. We're not all loaded but if we're perceived as being wealthier than the boys your age back on the farm we suddenly look like a hot prospect. Then there's manners. People might routinely hawk up on the streets, but those same people attended classes at school and read wuthering heights - or at least some did. They know what good manners are even if they're not seen on a daily basis. So having a certain degree of poise, being tall, and possibly being perceived as wealthy/powerful/whatever (or at least in comparison to some local young guys without many opportunities) all play into it. Not just being different - although that helps. And of course while we all know that we aren't fabulously wealthy and didn't just step out of a story book it takes a long time to change perceptions.
