Q: Why do so many people wear glasses with no lenses?
Why? What's the point? I don't get it.
One of the worst trends in China....................
I think it's a fashion statement. I've noticed over the years a startling amount of girls walking around squinting. I always assumed they couldn't afford glasses but my wife says it's because girls think glasses make them look unattractive. Like the squinting thing's sexy, huh? Then some girl comes along and sticks on some big old National Health type television sized specs but without frames in them and makes glasses popular. I honestly think it started as a statement, and a humorous one at that. Bloody rediculous looking statement, but that's what I reckon.
It is a fashion. But, I think it does not make sense as a Chinese. I do not like the frame without glasses. It does not look beautiful. on the contrary, it looks naive.
If they wear glasses with lenses it can hurt their eyes. If they wear glasses without lenses it shouldn't be harmful to their eyes.
Everybody knows: Girls with glasses get all the passes!
Lenses are a waste of time, you cannot see through the air anyway.
Fads are often silly. When I was younger, I never followed fads, started some. I had a pierced ear before that became popular, when it became popular and many guys started wearing an earring, I never wore one again. I don't like tattoos. I think they think the glasses accentuate their eyes. Why buy lens, they cost more and have to be constantly cleaned?
As someone who wears glasses because he's had to and throughout his life, I find this offensive. It makes me so angry.
It's worse than when being bullied at school and being called "Four-eyes".
If it is like it is here in the US, This is what I see. An add showing a famous American football player wearing glasses when he has perfectly good sight. The reason is that it is supposed to make them look more intelligent which some of them need. I have never seen a girl wearing lenzless glasses. Franck3
It's neither a trend or a fashion statement. It's a fad started by an Asian (Korean? Japanese?) movie star or pop artist - can't remember which - and it caught on amongst the sheeple that glamorize the rich and famous. This sort of thing happens in every society in every country so it should not come as a surprise. The lenseless glasses will go the same way as every other fad in the past and we'll all soon forget about it and find another fad to bellyache about.
In place of contact lenses and surgeries, Super focus frames are actual prescription eyeglasses frames, and stay true to the design as such. It is directed specifically for aging eyes. Lenses can hurt their eyes too.
I just encountered this yesterday. Some guy got on the bus with his fancy clothes, a thick wallet, and that "Everyone should bask in the glory of my awesomeness" look. The first thing I did was laugh to my wife.
I told the wife, "He's wearing glasses without lenses." The guy sat next to us on the bus, and then, after hearing what I said, he turned around and stared at me for the next thirty seconds with that, "Well, I never..." look on his face, in the most serious, "Sir, you have offended me. I demand an apology" manner.
I just continued to tell my wife how utterly ridiculous it is, and he got off in the next stop, still clutching to his fat wallet. When he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at all the girls on the bus trying to see who noticed him.
A rather handsome looking fella, but a bit pompous, conceited and misguided.
My wife said boys do it so they can look handsome.
