Q: Why do some Chinese men grow their pinkynail long?
It's a desperate attempt to prove they are not farmers. The logic being that if they were doing manual labor that fingernail would get knocked off.
The irony is that by trying to prove that they are not peasants, all they actually achieve is showing the rest of us that they still have the mindset of a peasant.

But yeah of course nowadays anybody that's worried somebody might think they are a farmer is a total loser and only showing their lack of cultural capital

It's also so they can pick their orifices more easily...usually in public.
