Q: Why do some companies mention the "Caucasian" race?

Why do some companies mention the "Caucasian" race when speaking about foreign jobs in some Asian countries? Isn't that called racism and kind of discriminatory. One's should be judged upon skills and performances not the skin of the color or the race. That is just a ridiculous form of close-mindedness and ignorance.

No offence Hakima, but you sound new to the China experience.

They mention Caucasian because that's what they're looking for, at least as an English teacher.

The sad truth is that schools are selling a product, and in the customer's (parents) mind genuine English speakers should be Caucasian, and if they have blonde hair, blue eyes and are good looking they're even better.

If the school hires somebody who doesn't look the part they could potentially lose a lot of students and therefore money so...

Some schools will hire Russians with very questionable English over a very qualified black person from Nth America or England.

Many Chinese are fickle and want to see their child taught by white faces. Often, it doesn't even matter how good their English skills are...

Marketers and companies have to supply the demand and this is the reason.

Are they racist? Yes.

Are they hiring unqualified white teachers? Yes, of course many can't teach English or even speak it well (sometimes from Russia, or some other European country).

Do they realize what racism is? Yes, they do. But they keep it quiet and deny it.

That's pretty much it.

Why are racists racist, in their countries where they don't have anti-discriminatory laws? Why don't foreign countries abide by home country's laws?

This is China they're ignorant and to be honest job discrimination is low on the totem pole. If someone wants to be stupid I don't care but where I draw the line is when it comes to harassing behavior. Who cares if they discriminate, China is not and will never be your home country and therefore owes you nothing.

unfortunately this what the parents want, and English teaching in China is a business. Like any business, the customer is always right. These schools are supplying the customers with what they want, regardless if they are "qualified" or not.

The customer is always right... until they're shown they're not!

OK world,, Don't be racist; be like Mario. He's an Italian plumber, who was made by the Japanese, speaks English, looks like a Mexican, jumps like a black man, and grabs coins like a Jew!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
