Q: Why do some of the markets here in Beijing sell expired beer?

Lately I haven't been able to find quality fresh beer here. What's up with that???

Stores buy expired/fake beer because it has a higher profit margin than the fresh/real stuff.  And they assume that their clientele won't know/care to tell the difference.

McDonald's apparently been guilty of the same thing recently, but with their beef patties, and, you know, feeding it to god knows how many people.

Not only that, they're probably not authentic, Beijing and Shanghai have just raided a few warehouses that were mixing different concoctions and putting a label on them, it's big business in China, and if you are purchasing these beverages from a small store, well that's probably to be expected

How does beer expire in a bottle?   Is it not like wine?    I suppose all the expiry dates in the west is authentic and reliable too!   I've been drinking beer for the past 50 years and I've never heard it being referred to as 'fresh'.   Some sort of marketing ploy?

Economics. If there are people willing to buy it, then there are those willing to sell it.

lokethebloke.

Beer has a shelf life of roughly 1 year. It can last longer if kept cold and in the dark  and less if it is exposed to light or placed in a fridge then left at normal temp and back to the fridge etc.. When it does go off it tastes crap. Referred to as "Skunk". That is why there is an expiry date or a made on date on most bottles wordlwide

i have never seen any. but if you do see that often, buy as much as you can, then sue the supermarket. you can get 20 times money back for the amount you paid.

Are you sure that it wasn't the production date?

How did it taste?

Actually some of the local brands start to taste better once they have expired a little.

Maybe this is because the micro organisms in it finally broke up those nasty artificial additives.

I guess anyway they can make that Remninbi.   They sell a lot of stuff that is about to go expired in like a day. There are so many people here but not everything will sell like hot cakes. I guess beer is one of those things that isn't really selling like hotcakes at the market!

Simple - If he throws it away then he loses money...you buy it and he makes money.

Reality is he doesn't care what happens to you.
