Q: Why do some users always give a thumbs down?

Not mentioning any names, but I have noticed that some users always give a thumbs down to almost all questions and responses. Why? we don't care, we don't need the jacket.

Just a poor mentality to have. You know who you are.

I don't know, the resident racist troll, who to be honest is not a very good troll, went through a phase of downing everything I posted, I just look at it as a victory mark, it meant I was getting to him.

Some others think it means something, or perhaps they do it because they are angry. Now if people's words on a forum make you angry, I would suggest you consider other pastimes, life's too short. Yet others decide they don't like a person / persona and thumb down everything that person posts, regardless of what that post was (I had a few who did that to me for a while), to me that is childish, and again, sad, really sad.

Just for the record, I have only ever thumbed down SPAM and blatant advertising, and I've stopped doing that now, I report it instead.

I am one of those who get those thumbs down occasionally but what doesn't kill you can make you stronger...........and i just do post what i want to post cause no one can just tell me not to post so i also can't just tell them not to thumb me down.....everyone got his own rights.

MissA:

In fairness, Createach, you have asked the forum in the past why you get thumbs down. The answers: were poor grammar, lack of punctuation and constant dot.dot.dots - and you keep doing it, and so clearly don't give a damn.

People who don't like it will keep down voting you - you will keep doing the same thing.

You know why. They're jerks ( I think that is the appropriate polite term) and they want their answer to be the best. Clearly if you down vote every other post that will increase the chance of yours being number one, but the increase is almost infinitesimal.

That my opinion FWIW.

I imagine some - a few - here like to be at the top of certain lists.

The jacket et al are nice but you discounted the glory of amassing points here. Surely this is an honor worth fighting for.

Oh, and they're petty *****.
I'd like to clarify that being at the top of a list does not indicate that I think that poster down votes others for no good reason. However I do think some people are a bit obsessive about 'rank' in it's various forms as reflected by the content of their questions and answers.

I am trying to work out a way to thumbs down everything I post, because I am just antisocial that way.

I volunteer to vote down all your posts! I'm happy to help.

No, I guess I really can't do that.

Some people think the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" rating is like penis size by proxy. If they make your "post" smaller, by comparison, theirs gets "bigger."

I think you pinned the tail on the donkey. You remember that game? Why did that game become an activity at birthday parties, I do not know. Well , anyways, you won.

Probably just someone on a power trip using the almighty "thumbs down" to put people in their place.

I like wit and good grammar. I think it was my upbringing. That always gets a thumbs up. Piss poor grammar, racism and plain stupidity...well...if I remember I will give it a thumbs down then I think.....what the hell, the writer tried!

You care enough to make a question about it. For my part, I thumbs down unhelpful, unrelated, or straight up asinine posts.

I don't know, but they must be either really bored or obsessive compulsive, because who wastes their time like that?

beaufortninja:

No. The real question is "who wastes their time whining about getting thumbs downs in questions/posts?"

I think it's someone that doesn't like the personalities here. But I also see where every post gets a thumbs down.? I either post serious or if I can make a wise crack, I will, sometimes silly. I get thumbed down and don't give a rats ass. I try not to offend anyone  except for one. I think one of the posters that gives thumbs down is suspended as he hasn't made his 3 daily stupid questions, nor answered every post. I see this style in another and think they are the same person.

I have noticed this too. My phone tweaks out sometimes and it presses the thumbs down link instead of thumbs up but for the record I never give thumbs down. If I don't like the comment, I just move on to the next. Smile
