Q: Why do you have a Chinese gf/bf/wife/hubby

Here by "you" I really mean YOU.  I'd be very interested to hear what you have to say on this topic.

'Why do you have a Chinese wife / bf / gf / husband'?

When you ask it that way it sounds a little like people have an agenda, to find a .... whatever, for xyz reasons and achieve some kind of goal, for example marry a well connected Chinese person because then you can live here on a marriage visa and use their connections to start a business. And that's probably true in some cases.

Mostly though I think it just happens naturally. When people live in a place they meet people, sometimes there will be chemistry and a relationship will develop. It's just life, there is no why.

xinyuren:

Yes, her question is a curious one.  Like, "why did you buy a Mercedes?"  or  Why did you decide to live in Shanghai?  Chinese think differently.  Often marriage is a form of strategy (to get face, to get rich, to move up socially, to please parents, because they are getting old...).  Love is often the last reason on that strategic list.  Kinda' reminds me of old Europe during the age of kings.

@xin: some would say. "I got a Mercedes to attract pretty Chinese girls"

I met a person I clicked with when I happened to be in China.  China is full of Chinese.  What more can be said about this?

I was in China because I had a job offer and a good past experience in a China. I was single, man, heterosexual. Most women in China are Chinese. All women I met in a China were Chinese. I felt in love with one, because of who she was as a human being. We married. By Chinese standard, she's a bit eccentric. No strategies involved. A Chinese passport is a pain in the ass, she is from modest background, so if it was all about strategy, then it would have been a poor strategy ^^

you could also answer the question:

why do you have a foreign boy-friend?

flyingheart:

Ah-ha, a good question.  I love his smiles.  I feel for him.  I like his eyes in some situations.  I like his social conduct, his sensitivity, and his not-so-charming seriousness .  I feel comfortable around him (not when he pisses me off though).  I just hope he feels the same about me.  BUT I targeted  native English speakers in the first place because I am a learned bilingual.  Is that a good reason?

Because she was born in China.

The fact that she is referred to as being "Chinese" is a man made terminology. She could be from Mars (or Venus)  for all I care. But not Pluto. Plutonian women are very cold. My mate married one and he has to live at the South Pole with her. Even then she says the climate is too hot !!  And to cap it all, my mate does not even know if his Plutonian wife is actually a female.

Lol. This just reminded me of another mate. His wife confessed to him that she used to be a hooker. No problem my mate said, He did not care about how many men she had been with. "No... you don't understand", she purred to him. " I played rugby and my name was Bob"

 wink

sorrel:

LOL

do you know what a 'Galway Hooker' is?

It depend what you mean by "Chinese"? My girlfriend consider herself as a Zhongguoren but she is not a Han, she's from one of the many Southern minorities and in hers in particular women are usually much better looking than Han women and unlike the last have body shapes while being slim.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
