Q: Why do you think China is safer than other Asian countries like Thailand and Vietnam?

I guess the obvious answer is money, but I asked a Chinese friend if China was more dangerous when people were poor, and she claimed no.

Well you know how most Chinese are a little insecure and passive? Well this is the upswing of that. Also, a lack of physical activity until after the gaokao means the majority of the population has no idea how to throw a punch or engage in violence.

Side note: anybody notice the almost-complete absence of graffiti in the big cities?

What evidence do you have the China is safer than Vietnam and Thailand? I've been to both countries and felt safe in both though the visits were for holidays.

China has less foreign tourists, so people are not so used to rob them, also no guns

Those stats are BS. China does not keep or release accurate stats (Official responsible for keeping track will be fired if their numbers are too high) . Crime is seriously under reported. Assaults and rape go untracked because even if they are reported the police will do nothing or make the offender pay compensation. Peopled generally don't go to the police because they routinely turn them away.

If you are going to live in a country associate and talk to the locals they will tell you everything.

China has a human trafficking problem...but all the good statistics are on blocked web sites.

Yes, China is generally a pretty safe country when it comes to street crime but as you mentioned a lot of stuff goes unreported

China is safe because of the herd or fit in mentality, no Chinese guy ever has the balls to confront a Foreign guy 1 VS 1, they might disagree with some of the things you do but none of them will stand up in a public place and call you out for kissing your Chinese girlfriend, they are too afraid to lose face. They still have this passive aggressive behavior though, with angry stares and "HALUO" to make you feel unwelcome on their territory.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
