Q: Why does the American ambassador rile up Chinese media so much?

Is it because he's of Asian descent? Does that give them the short-lived 'courage' to attack him for having a coffee on his own, or kneeling in front of a girl to talk to her?

It seems most Chinese realize that there's really nothing behind it, but for some reason the Chinese media can't let him be.

Are they afraid that since he looks Chinese, average people might take example from him?

Part of it is that in many popular blogs, he is quite popular among the "regular" people who joke and compare him to the government officials of a particular country. If the Ambassador were of any other race or ethnicity, they would not care. However, since they consider him Chinese (even though he is 3d gen American) he makes "others" look bad so the media belittles him. And guess who controls the media.....

he is a govt official (of the hated imperialistic usa) who lives like every other human being. his example is a threat to china's govt.

the fact that he is of chinese heritage confuses things more. it shows how free and open america is compared to china. how many russian families have lived in china for generations but are still considered foreigners.

Because they like to pretend to their own people that Chinese people all think and act the same. Suddenly, here's a "Chinese" guy who does not. This could catch on!
