Q: why Does China have to Change to accommodate You ?

So you came to China and you want some things to be the same as at home .
Why does China have to change its rules and customs for you?
If you want those things go home .
Yes there are things that I don't like about China and thats part of the reason i visit and not live there.
Now if we could just get the immigrants in my country to understand that too.

China does not have to change for me, it has to change for itself. It has to improve in terms of the world's perception of China. Building second grade infrastructure in order to gain face only gets you so far before the rest of the world discovers it is just a mask and the world is seeing more and more the sham. To do this requires education in all matters, the powers that be do not want a fully aware population, this applies to all countries not just here, and most of the people are too brainwashed to even want to change. They are convinced they are the center of the universe with their 5,000 years of history and culture, they never see the irony when asked for examples of their culture  that they are unable to give any.

I agree, I'm not the type of person that whines about people chewing with their mouth open or spitting and pissing / shitting on the street, talking loudly on their phones (but I do poke fun at it and point it out).   But where I draw the line is at harassing behavior (taking photo, pointing, yelling things and obsessive staring).

RandomGuy:

Yep, same here, I don't mind any sort of behavior from other cultures unless they fall in the 'harassment' category, then I put a stop.

I once found myself grabbing the smartphone of a middle-aged lady who wouldn't stop recording and following me around like a monkey in a zoo, I deleted the video on her phone then told her to stop doing that because next time I smash it into pieces, she stopped.

There is such thing as cultural differences and then there is showing zero respect to fellow human beings, treating them like freak shows, because you do to the Chinese half of what they do to Foreigners and before you know it a nationalist mob runs you over.

I don't think it has to change to accommodate me. As long as you have money you can change it. I'm talking about me changing things to make my life comfortable. I have to admit the pollution is bad. But I don't intend to stay if I don't want too. Many areas of China are quite nice.

I think, the only way that I feel I ought to be 'accommodated', would be in supermarkets where I want cheese, butter, and other things that are non-traditional Chinese foods (but, obviously, that's happening anyway).

And, perhaps reasonably, with language in particular areas - PSB, someone at the police station, one person in a bank (especially if they do currency exchange) and foreign owned, controlled, and promoted shops (eg, Starbucks, KFC, Subway). That last one is ONLY because they have a menu in English, and the US'ness is promoted....ANd, their English only needs to be enough to get the ordering done - knowing the English names of their offerings (eg, "Subway Melt") and ingredients ("no mayo").

These things are what we have back in my country! It's government mandated to have translation services available. We also have buckets of restaurants around... most groups of suburbs where I live (and it's a conservative area) has a few Chinese restaurants, and people (including those conservative types) will eat 'foreign' foods.

What's a bit amusing is telling locals about some of the things that annoy use (eg, the spitting, pissing, shitting, rude behaviour) and being told "oh, no no no.. that doesn't really happen!!") or "It's a developing country"... ie, they are aware of the negatives, but try to downplay or excuse it..

Totally disagree

I wish they would change the mentality of not correcting one another. It seems to me any bad behavior goes unchecked by their own citizenry.  Drive down sidewalk, ok.  Drive down wrong side of the road, ok. Smoke in No Smoking area, ok.  Yell in school, ok.  Slam doors in office repeatedly, ok.  Sound horn at 06:00, ok. Push on metro/elevator before passengers exit, ok. Expectorate contaminated phlegm anywhere, anytime, ok. Litter, ok.  Treat young women worse than animals just because they are desperate for gainful employment, ok.

I cant determine if it is the population doesn't care or general apathy towards life in their hopeless existence, or if they are too timid to speak up and challenge the transgressor.
