They have the Englon made in Shanghai, they probably relied on foreign technoly to make their cars here and the these cars are just second rate, also people like to drive German cars Audi, VW BMW, Merc etc. You can't loose face Wink Drive a QQ and man you are Laughing out loud

Many of the foreign brands are domestically manufactured. Some of the local cars are starting to improve in design and quality as well. I have been in one of these and they are a good car and far cheaper than local made cars with imported badges.

apart from the likes of Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Bentley or Rolls, they ALL are built here. Imported cars are subject to almost 100 % import tax (luxury goods)

Hey, I've seen a BWM, a WV Sontono, and an Oudi (with a 5 circle Olympic logo). I'm pretty sure those are domestic cars.

In the big cities you'll see everyone driving BMWs, Mercedes, Audi, etc, etc, because it's a way to show off. Outside of the big cities you see (or course still a lot of VWs) Geely, Chery, Changfeng, Dongfeng, and in Henan province, Nissans. Not sure why, but I think there is a deal there. Most of these companies made buses, trucks and the like and have just recently (like 2002 recently) began producing passenger cars as now people can afford them.

Cars are more of a status symbol right now, but as the market expands and everyone will end up having a car, I expect to see WAY more local brands on the roads. I also expect to see a burgeoning used car market within the next 10-20 years.

Your question if I am not wrong means "originally conceptualized and made/manufactured"in China by Chinese? If that's so, then technically, there's almost none. Besides all the foreign brands and local sounding brands manufactured here in China, the engine blocks and moulds are all foreign design and engineered. Practically all cars "manufactured" in China are either JV with a foreign brand or made under license using a foreign engine. China's first experiment with cars was the Red Flag (that again using a Russian engine and technology).....recently there's some possibilities though....like BYD engineering electric autos.... then again...
