Q: Why don't girls here experiment with their hair?

Very very rarely do I see girls here trying new cuts, new colors, hair extensions or the like. How come? Is it fear or being different from everyone else?

I've seen hair extensions and a variety of cuts, even curly. Their hair is usually so full bodied that it can be just worn straight and look good. As for colours, I find blonde Chinese just look wrong and I like black hair. I see them being different, maybe because there are so many women that many look alike.

At home womens hair styles have been ugly, wearing the hair curled out, died blonde and looked like the cat chewed the ends or another short cut combed over to the side and maybe streaked. A simple hair style is better than thousands of ugly clones.

Really?? Rarely? Where have you been??? I see it all the time. AND the boys (which is usually much scarier Tongue)

Not a lot as far as styles, but certainly colours. But, I'd suggest that some styles just don't work with their hair type.

They don't?  So for a country that has straight black hair, yeah you're right, you only see straight black hair all cut the exact same style.

i tend to think the guys experiment more with there hair here. But see some girls with mullets (mainly old woman), the hair shaved on both sides with hair on top. But the go seems to be bangs and hair down.

I agree with brisguy, I see a lot of guys styling their hair, as well as girls. I like it as long as it's not too poofy. I don't see anything wrong with a guy wanting to have some style. You also have to look at the younger generation to see the variety. Try going to a college campus sometime, you'll see a lot of different hairstyles and colors.

In Beijing I see a LOT of people, not just girls but boys too experimenting with their hair. The only place I saw more of that was Shanghai.

I guess it depends on where in China you are.

Have you ever been to a hair salon? When they hand me a book to look at to get designs and styles, they are all the same! Shoulder length, a share of brown, with bangs and a little curl at the end. Maybe in a big city like Shanghai and Beijing girls have different styles, but in the rest of the country, not so much. If you do see a girl with red or a different hairstyle, it stands out. Boys on the other hand...Especially boys who work at salons have all kinds of crazy colors and styles.
