Q: Why don't married Chinese wear a ring?

Ok so I KNOW this doesn't apply to ALL Chinese, but for the purpose of brevity my question was thus phrased. In the past I had many Chinese teachers (female) who didn't wear a wedding ring. When I asked they said it was 'mafan' (a hassle), but I thought it can't be too much of a hassle to keep a ring on one's finger. Is there something I don't know about?

Some people got married even tell others they didn't, for u know the reason.
I think without a ring is a hassle. Hope I have a marriage ring, people keep asking me if I am married, as they know most married people in China don't wear a ring.
Feel sad every time when they ask. Sad

Don't feel sad Wenna7! Marriage isn't everything in the world! You can be a wonderful person while not being chained to a man for the rest of your life!

Live your life, have fun, and be happy! If you can't be happy, how can you bring joy to others?

Wearing a ring after marriage is a western way and new thing for Chinese. So, it is not as important and significante as for westerners.

I personally do not like wear the ring too, mafan.

On the contrary, girls wearing a ring may not having the same meaning as you guys think too. That might just a decoration. Wink
