Q: Why don't they make pies here?

In the contest between cake and pie, it's an accepted truth pie trumps cake, hands down.

China has an incredibly wide variety of fruits. On the other hand, they're not strangers to cakes, crust and all those sweet things. So why did they never combine the two? Why is it still difficult today to find a decent pie in China?

Sometimes I thank China for helping me on my path to slimming down, other times...I just want to eat pie.

Taking a wild guess, I would venture to say it will be for two basic reasons :

1.- Chinese are not used to eat desserts after a meal.

2.- In general, Chinese dislike anything sweet.  For example, my GF will not eat pineapple unless she puts salt and vinager on it.

PS: if I may, I would like to add a third one I just thought of.  If you eat pies, there is nothing (bones)to spit, thus not liked it.

You can't cut a pie into 1000 slivers and serve it on a plate with other hacked-up pies.

Maybe it is because pies take so much prep work and aren't as beautiful when finished. Now, if you could convince a bakery to make individual serving sized pies, perhaps the crust on top could have cute shapes cut in it or make it very colorful...it could work. I don't see a big pie selling well.

Not talking about the sweet pie (apple and so on) but a good meat pie one thing I truly miss.

woody:

I think when Americans talk about pie they are refering to the sweet variety, where an Aussie is talking meat and sauce (or potatoe, pie & pea floater ,steak & kidney, curry, steak & onion etc)

I always bring a few packets of frozen meat pies from Australia. I have a friend who has a small oven that they bring over to our place so I can heat them up. Most people I give one to try say they like them.

Because Chinese just want to have their cake, and eat it, too.

Besides, making pi involves too much math for the avearge baker...

If you want to eat pie go to Mcdonalds. They sell two kinds apple and another flavor. It's actually pretty good and it will cost you less than 10 kuai per pie!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
