Q: Why is everything here so slow?

I mean everything...from slow walking to slow service to slow driving to slow working...everything here seems to be done at a snails pace...the worst is trying to walk in a crowded store or street.  Like how can it take a cleaning lady 3 hours to clean my small kitchen...I mean really?

A wise man once told me..."dude...there are only 2 things in life you should do slow...the first one is eating and second one you can figure out."  BTW he was my boss when I was young.

Sometimes I find myself about to lose it but maybe this is good for my patience levels.

Not everything's slow here. People getting on the bus or train aren't slow. People ordering food at a 快餐 aren't slow. If there's something that they really want, they aren't slow. If it's something I really need, and it goes slowly (like paperwork or if I need to be somewhere) then I'm pissed. Otherwise, I like being a bit lazy.

I think that if its something for themselves, they do it fast.   If they're doing something for or involving others, its suuuuuuper slow

I was getting annoyed at everything. Now I'm trying to understand it. I find it hard to walk with anyone Chinese. I end up walking ahead looking for land mines or really dragging my feet. If I'm walking to get some place I have to weave in and out of people. If I have something to do, I get it done, but always at a well done level. Often I'll stay up all night to work on something. Look up impatient in a book, thats my picture you see.

The other night I walked about 15 kms in this heat and humidity. By the time I got home I was walking like a local. OK, I get it now, life is slower here. It's not laziness, there is less stress. SMACK, that was my own SWAT team, a bunch of guys with big white gloves, swat. swat swat, ya dumbass,, Panda you want to join it?

Up north it's the other way around as they work like ants at a picnic to get things done before it starts to snow again

Speaking of slow

has anybody seen the twins lately?

I think it is to do with their general attitude to most things, which seems to be just get by with doing the minimum. We see this with people sleeping at work or on QQ etcetera. A good example is literally right outside my apartment, there is a parking area made up of shaped bricks. Last week they had to dig dig down about a meter to do something to an underground pipe, they then took about four days to refill the hole with cement and relay all the patterned bricks on the surface. Within two days one area of the pattern bricks is now sinking, obviously they made a pretty crappy job of mixing the cement underneath. They were just getting away with the minimum. Well if you think about it  if someone can get way with doing the minimum for work they will do the minimum in every other aspect of their lives and this results in everything going slow I mean why bother rushing to do something on time when you might stand out as having done a good job, far easier just to do the minimum.

I really cannot get my head around this type of thinking, on the one hand China seems to want to catch up to western standards but on the other hand nobody gives a rat's arse about actually trying to do anything that might achieve that. Maybe it's me, I have only been here a year so maybe I am missing some great secret that our inscrutable hosts do not want to let on to these strange foreigners, but I don't think so. I am really beginning to think that despite what they say the Chinese really do not give a shit about anything.
