Q: Why is the handrailing on the subway so low?

It starts at about 1.5 meters off the ground, and extends to about 10 cm from the ground. Wouldn't it be more sensible to have it higher? While there are many tall people that can reach a 2 meter (or higher) handrailing, there's not many people who can reach a 10 cm high railing.

it's not racist to call people short is it ?

it is also not racist to call people short because they historically have been starved, beaten and live in a society that is heavily polluted, is it?

It could be construed as racist because I would be making a sweeping statement about an ethnic group.

It might be a sweeping statement, but as generalizations go it's not the worst one you could come out with. The danger is when they're so small that you have to use a specific term, just to be descriptive. Should it be 'dwarf'? Should it be 'midget'? You can see that trying to use the correct term can create a real conundrum here, it's tricky.

So I just call them Oompaloompas!

(Please to excuse, i'm ripping off Jimmy Carr jokes again. Old habits and that).
