Q: Why has the emperor's tomb next to Terracotta warriors not been opened?
I traveled to Xi'an recently and got to see the Terracotta warriors. Whoopty do. (not impressed - mount huashan was a lot more interesting)
Anyways, I came out of there with a question the guide gave a half-assed answer to. Not very far from the warriors is arguably the most famous and important emperor in all of China, burried. We know where his tomb is, but it remains unopened. Why on earth not?
From what I have been told, they don't really know the exact location. They have a clue, but the main worry is how to open it and not instantly harm anything still inside.
Plus, it is rumored to have a lake of mercury, so centuries of poisonous gas might put a few people off from being the first to open the door.
complex condition make people dont open this tomb so quickly, reckless action maybe harmed this treasure under the ground, so even the terracotta warriors also have huge area undiscovered.
