I don't have problems that often. It does depend on the time, for some reason taxis go off shift at freakin' rush hour here. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. So, alot of them passing you are also passing Chinese people.

It also could depend on where you are. In tourist areas they tend not to stop because they assume you don't speak Chinese and figure it'll be a headache dealing with you.

Funny you should mention that. I almost exploded this morning. At least 10 empty taxis wouldn't stop for me this morning, and when I turned around I saw that 2 of them stopped several metres on to pick up a Chinese person. That kind of thing really angers me. I eventually had to get the bus and got to work 20 minutes late -- the entire time on the bus I was swearing at the taxi drivers in my head. Next time I'm going to take a pic of their number plate and make an official complaint.

in the winter you can dress up like a ninja like with a beanie hat and one of those face masks to disguise your a foreigner, will also give you a bit of relief from all the constant staring.

That's really weird , in Shanghai you stick your hand out and drivers come to a screeching halt or make crazy u-turns to pick you up . Never had problems because I'm a foreigner , except when they try to rip you off and drive in circles cuz they think you don't know where you are/where you're going . (I went postal on a taxi driver last week for that)

Before you judge someone walk a mile in their shoes, that way you're a mile away and you have their shoes!
