It is sociably unacceptable to live with a women without being married and have children without buying a house.

In a nut shell, it is a big representation of the commitment to family that is so fundamental in a collectivist society like China.

But it also has to do with a theory called "conspicuous consumption". Basically your position in society being determined by what you own.

I think it is good because you are having an asset and secondly if you are on rent you are wasteing your money it is better to take mortgage if u can and pay monthly as a rent, one day you will have your own Assest and savings.

It shows stability and that is something that women in a "harmonious society" find attractive.

The real question is, why do they call condos and apartments "houses"? Even though I explain it so thoroughly in my classes even foreigners seem to pick up on that bit of Chinglish. Also: American dudes calling beer "wine".

House=Security, I think it's the same around the world though isn't it? when you pay rent you're paying someone else mortgage, hence money out the window... I don't think this thinking is only Chinese I think this is normal for anyone of any culture...

The main reason for Chinese to buy an apartment is for investment.

Before, they couldn't bet money on stock markets; the safest way to increase one potential wealth was then to buy an apartment.

Another reason is that often parents (providing they have the resources) will offer an apartment to their son/daughter when he/she gets married.

So that the girl can get something out of the divorce later.....

The reason is all the propaganda and a lot of "Good policy " from government...
People are fooled by someone...
