because this is china stupid not england they speak chinese among other languages. they dont all know mandarin
Waqas_khan:
English is an international language till now.... if a country cant compete with the international language of the present time how come it will compete with the rest of the stuff in the world......!!!
frankieting:
According to United Nation, there are 5 official International languages, Mandarin is also one of them. Never think that only English is the only International language. You should learn more International language like Mandarin. Not only English.
I have no idea, it's really a ridiculous thing, I mean come on! the majority of England/USA/Canada/Australia/etc knows Mandarin. Why can't the majority of 13billion people knows English? oh the horror!
You're seriously asking that question? Like, seriously, from the bottom of your heart you are curious about it?
Waqas_khan:
It's really a trouble for all forigners to talk with these people.... they even don't know the basic....!!!
Diaphane:
Well than go learn Mandarin. Why do they have to learn your language in their own home? You're the one who should make the effort. They don't live here for centuries to make your life easier when you come here.
They really don't need to, this is China after all, try going to Russia, it's about the same.
How many people in your country speak Chinese? Probably because they don't need it. The majority of people in China don't speak English because they never interact with English speakers. The number of English speakers in China according to the CCP is 300 million, which is grossly over exaggerated. Sure, English has been taught in Chinese schools for the last few decades but look at it like this, how many Americans remember the Spanish or French they had to learn in high school? Probably not many. But just because they took some classes does that count as knowing the language?
Imagine the loss of cultural face China would lose if their ever so great, illustrious and otherwise world dominant culture and people were to concede that English was indeed the language of the future and not some archaic mumbo jumbo that has barely evolved from cave painting.
The Chinese are way too clever for that or..
.. too clever for themselves.
Since most conflict is based on the inability to communicate effectively using not just language as a measure, but cultural/tone and even humor, I do think the world should pick one language as a universal language and learn to use it proficiently (speak, read, write). However, this being said, it would also be a shame if languages were lost due to the use of a universal language.
That being said, for adult learners who aren't native english speakers, english is one of the hardest languages to learn, especially grammatically and writing.
Although, I am having a difficult time with Mandarin, but I'm also very new, and overwhelmed with the thought of 8000 characters, plus 4 tones, countless dialects, etc.
Maybe we should all learn spanish. Its relatively easy compared to English and Mandarin.
Diaphane:
There is a supposedly universal language that was created. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto
are you from china??????????? the over whelming majority are impoverished and dont have access to decent education. china only opened up about 30 years ago. you cant convert 50% into anything n that time unless you threaten their lives.
english is an international language because of Englands and then the USA former colonies mainland china was never a colony
really the majority of russians know english ? or a lot of russians in the cities know english?
even in India and the Philippians there are many people who dont speak english
your logic is non existent
frankieting:
Why don't you ask, why majority in America or United Kingdom don't know Chinese? I think you never travel and do not know much about outside world.
GoldenBoy:
Omg, dissed by a local for not being wise nor traveled enough! Obviously no one speaks Chinese in England or America because for the most part and for the vast majority it is useless and a waste of time, much like the language itself.
