when I first came to China, they had Mr. Bean playing on the in-flight entertainment..  You can understand and laugh, even if you don't hear anything..

Mr. Bean really doesn't talk much, but he's still hilarious because he's so good at expressions.

same with Tom and Jerry..... its funny and everyone can understand it

Physical humor is universal.

  I have no idea, I just wish my students would stop telling me I look like him.

Cause there's no talking hence easy to get and plus, Mr. Bean is damned funny. 

Because Mr Bean does things in a more logical and sensible manner than most Chinese. They don't watch it for the entertainment and comedy value. The Chinese watch it for its educational value.

He's not I've been by the movie stores and not a single person took one of his dvd's off the shelf. They actually sell Mr. Bean dvds on the streets as well, but it's the same thing nobody bothers to buy them. 

Mr. bean is popular because he is hilarious and full of sense of humor. Anyone who watches him will laugh out loud.
