Q: Why so many layers
Im just going out for something to eat,my daugther looks like THE MICHELLIN MAN,why are Chinese so scared of a bit of cold weather,im in Xian its not even to cold,i say something reply your just stupid Westener you will get broken bones if dont wear enough clothes
Yep and if you drink cold water you will die.......
The layers, ah yes the freakin layers............from the waist down they can't feel their legs but from the waist up, (the men) are open jacket or with the arm bent at the elbow keeping the jacket closed with no gloves on. Zippers, anyone?
I've actually wondered... Do they loose feeling in their lower body (not completely of course but less than someone normal) from the butt flaps being open throughout childhood?
How about sleeping with the bedroom window wide open so they do not die at night for lack of oxigen, even with below 0 C outside?.
And of course, layers and layers of clothes, two or three blankets, and even head under them. And that is healthy !.
I had met a Canadian in one of cold Beijing winter. He felt so strange why guys here dont cover their head with a warm hat, hand with a glove, some guys wear really not warm in his eyes.....
Where are guys from Canada or New York here? they could give more stories...
Many layers is a fanshion trend btw.....
kchur:
I'd put on a hat if it reaches about minus ten, in Canada, gloves at about -15. I've never seen that kind of temperature in China. Chinese, on the other hand, always wear long johns, even when it's 5-10 degrees. I think of long johns as for being -40 weather.
One layer is for the natural weather such as the snow, the cold air blowing, the next layer is for the spit that is flying from all the people that spit on the street and the third layer is just for extra protection in case the first two layers get damaged easily..
I rarely do my coat up, I wear gloves if it is -15, if the wind is cold I flip up my hood. I never wear layers or long sleaved shirts. I do not own long johns and I wear boots even in the summer. I'm Canadian.
I am from Los Angeles, California. Winters there are 20c. So when I come to China and it reaches below 10c, you can bet I am reaching for the longjohns.
When I lived in Dalian and it would reach -30 with wind chill, you can bet I had several layers on, hat, gloves and still complaining about the frozen hell I was forced to endure.
Some people are built for cold, some aren't. I am one of the ones not built for it. So layers are a must. I just don't do it to the extreme that our hosts seem to enjoy.
