Q: Why some Chinese girls give so much importance to their external beauty, rather then their character?

In my office i used to see in cabins where chinese girls sit ,for sure there will be a mirror. In a day they will look into it nearly 50 to 60 times,I am the IT Dept head ,Whenever I cross a girl's cabin ,they will minimise all the windows in computer, even if it dosent matter anything to me and used to act as if they are busy in a work.I have been surprised many a times thinking  why this people are not so outspoken to each other? when we give a work ,which can be finished within one hour ,they will drag it to four or five hours and when its 6 'o' clock ,they will just leave the office ,without updating any one .They are not interested in having a social relation with co-workers,just like human machines, they are always concerned about they dress code, hair straightening ,facial etc...

Sudhakaran, I found that they do relate to each other. The office i was in they were all relatively young and they chatted and had lunch together and even invited me even though I was working in a slightly different department from them. Isnt the mirror gazing universal. All women do that. Admittedly maybe it is more so in the East.

OP, as others said, the priorities you described are found in any country or culture I have experienced or heard of. It's not just Chinese girls, and it's not all of them.

You obviously don't know much about women. Most beautiful women consider beauty to be temendous vasset. If you have ever noticed the more beautiful a women is the smarter you are according to the majority of males. In my younger days I used to go shopping at the local super market. To prove the above statement I would look for the most attractive women in the store and when she left I followed her. 100% of the time they would get into a Lexus, Mercedes etc never a cheap car. I'm a girl and I do have a mirror in my drawer, yet I have a good brain. I don't care about how others look at me as a woman, whether I dress nice, sexy, cute or not, I do care about whether I'm dressing comfortable. But that doesn't mean I'd put much time on dressing, or getting the hair done. I don't even put on any makeup unless I'm required to(wedding or formal occasions etc.) I know some girls spend too much time on cloths, makeup, nails, shoes, whatsoever, it's just the same thing like guys play video games, some spend a lot of time even addicted to it, but some just do it for fun.

Don't forget that there are many guys do focus on women's looks and figures rather than characters. Smile

Isn't that universal instead of " some Chinese girls?"I am pretty sure some of the guys in general acting like that too. China is such a place to be overwhelmed and lost, it is so easy to forget what is important, for the record, I think external is pretty darn important too, but it is not the only thing that matters and definitely can not over top ones' character.  not to mention that a lot of people in China simply don't have the chance to be aware of the importance of oneself.

Dear Mr. Sudhakaran,

What is wrong in looking good?

Just because Chinese girls want to look good (they already look so good), does it mean that they have no character?

And by the way, who or what gives you the right to judge someone else's character.

You are a guest in this country.

Accept the people as they are, and not as you would want them to be.

I am sure you can find many women of "Character" in your own country, so better stop judging the Chinese girls.

And talking about internal beauty.......do you want to see adorable kidneys, bones !!

Adorable face makes people happy, even if momentarily !!!!!!

Warm regards

Noel

He's a guest?  He was invited to come to China?  How do you know that?

And yeah, too much makeup is not an attractive look.  In fact, if makeup is noticeable, it's too much.

The natural look is the best look.

The young people with acned skin should have a long, hard look at their crappy diets instead of slapping poor quality goop all over it.

Some Chinese girls give more importance to their external beauty over their character because this is what they have been told is more important.

Sadly many people believe physical beauty is better than a good character and miss out on fulfilling relationships.

It is life

This is quite an interesting topic of conversation and one I have often found having with Chinese and non Chinese friends. I work in an environment which is predominantly female about 95 percent and on a daily basis the females spend hours gazing in the mirror, picking their face/skin, cutting their fingernails, combing their hair, applying make-up, cleaning lint of their clothing, trying on each others’ clothes, shoes or accessories and sometimes it drives me insane. I am not saying what they do is wrong but it seems like from my own experience that Chinese females spend so much time on the external façade that they don’t realise that you should have something other than physical aesthetics in life.

From what I have seen and heard in China there is heavy emphasis on physical beauty as it is drilled into not everyone’s head but most people I know that it leads to a happy and successful life and being unattractive leads to the opposite depending on what you view as unattractive. I often get hints that I should do something about my hair as it is grey, I started going grey at 16 due to genetics, then every summer someone leaves those insane white bleaching face masks on my desk as dark skin apparently is not a good look, shopping websites are suggested where I can buy new big sized clothes every month at reasonable prices I could go on and on. I try to explain to colleagues and friends that I don’t rely on my hair or skin, or dress sense to make me feel attractive and 100 per cent of the time I get a look saying ‘what the heck are you talking about woman’???

I find it interesting and sometimes somewhat sad that people feel this way because and to sound very corny here, the physical body is just a shell the spirit within us should count and be deemed beautiful or good but then when I say this out loud people just don’t get it so I shut my mouth and watch my colleagues look into the mirror a trillion times a day.

Well that's what 5000 yrs of history taught them. Sadly most of girls worry so much for marrying or having a certain good fish to marry with before 26 otherwise they will be pushed by their families, neighbors & other people.

I wonder what's more important A) looking very good from outside  B) Showering everyday, flossing & brushing teeth at least twice a day or C) Having goals & ambitions reachable on each own, not in someone else's success or money.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
