I guess you wanted to type 升,which means 1 metric liter.
And:
The US liquid quart equals 57.75 cubic inches, which is exactly equal to 0.946352946 litres.
You have to admit that America is exceptional 
The US quart is just a justification. I'm sure they adopted it by the possibility of ripping off a 5% profit from a full 1L.
the whole world is metric except america, the great satan, and china decides that satan's milk standard will guide there future. great fiction, cant make this up if i tried.

To be fair, the UK is metric in appearance only. Back home I still bought my milk and beer in pints, bought my cheese in fractions of a pound, measured my own weight in stones and drove xxx miles an hour in my car.
We learn metric in school and quickly have to know how to convert it into imperial when we leave!

Chinese farmers or Supermarkets (veggy&fruit dept) don't use 1 kg as 'metric measure'. Posted price is always for 1/2 kg.

It looks like 'old time' and 'new time' thingy. Farmers are 'managing' veg&fruit depts in Supers. Outside market sellers don't know anything about kg. They all use half kg.
