Q: Why were the power and scale of eunuchs severely limited during the Qing Dynasty?
As I recall, the eunuchs in ancient China were very powerful. For example, the eunuchs of the Tang and Ming dynasties.

Because after the Manchus overthrew the Ming Dynasty, they learned the lesson of the Ming Dynasty's demise. One of the many lessons was the trespass of eunuchs. In Chinese history, the Tang and Ming dynasties were the two happiest dynasties for eunuchs. As an example, the Ming eunuch Wei Zhongxian was second only to the emperor. He was also known as "Nine Thousand Years Old". This meant that his power was second only to that of the emperor. After Wei Zhongxian gained absolute power, he upset the political balance of the Ming Dynasty. Worse, he made the officials of the whole dynasty obey his orders. Otherwise, both officials and commoners would have been subjected to political attacks from him. Therefore, the rulers of the Qing Dynasty, having witnessed the dangers of eunuchs arrogating power, strictly limited the size of eunuchs and their power.
