Q: Why would the US “Apologize” To China For Our “Lousy” Human Rights Record?

One of the most free nations in the history of the world, apologized to  a country that allows families to one have only child and forcibly aborts others, a country that  systematically oppresses others, Tibet for example, crushes all opposition, where prisoners are routinely tortured, and we are apologizing to them for our human rights record.

Sorry but what a load of crap....When can we expect to start hearing the Chinese do the same!!!!!!

Eeeeee, not really apologizing to China per se.  The apology was directed towards Chinese people living in America.  "Sorry for sticking it to you so hard after that slow boat ride over, thanks for the railroads and tunnels, btw".

He might be one of the worst presidents in modern times. More 'fake apology' tours from him.

*In case anyone was wondering: Go back to the 1800s (even before) and plenty of people lived cold hard brutal lives back then. Some groups ended up in better places and other groups in harsh conditions.

Scottish immigrants finding their 'one-way-ticket' to their 'new land' found rocks, trees and brutal winters. Scots actually died from the conditions. So did a lot of people. Welsh miners found themselves in mines every bit as brutal and deadly as their homelands.

Any working class people. English or Danes often worked in brutal saw mills, railroad projects. They lived in 'shanty towns' back then. Those in the 'gold rush' were men who often died working to death. It was not uncommon for unscrupulous wealthy to (for example) work a german community to near-death (or real death) in brutal conditions only to rob them of all they had in the end.

Chinese were no exception. Of course, some Chinese were wealthy and lived in the 'elite' worlds of high politicians and businessmen. Others (many young men) ended up in brutal railway building positions. Some became highly successful but like their German and Kenyan co-workers they often lived hard-working rough and tough back-breaking short lives.

But Obama is happy to create a deceptive narrative, contrive a false 'victim status' narrative. Then apologize for 'The USA' (really a senseless, meaningless thing) and why?

He is desperate for re-election and has been going about first categorizing classes of people, actually instigating class or racial sensitivities and categories and then trying to pick them up for votes.

Interestingly, I would easily and safely say that the vast majority of Chinese Americans are FAR more like-minded as a Mitt Romney. Socially and financially conservative. You work for success. They are very keen on independent business, entrepreneurialism. They are very family-centric. They don't want their kids getting 'gay married' and they do NOT appreciate a lot of people bypassing immigration and often showing up to rob their hard-earned businesses of cash.

Hi jknox00,

Excellent comments bro!! Keep 'em coming. I'm very conservative but I also think George W. Bush was one of my country's worst presidents.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
