Q: Is wifi enough for a tablet or do you need 3G for a tablet in China?

I've always been using wifi ones and for my needs, that's been enough. There's Wifi access in most public places these days (in Beijing anyway) so unless you need to access the web 24 hours a day at obscure locations, you can save yourself the extra money.

It depends a lot on your usage pattern and where you are.

Here in town, usable free wifi is scarce. Unless you want to be chained down at Burger King and Star Bucks you're out of luck.

You will of course have wifi at home, you ca surf etc there. If you have both tablet and phone you can use the phones 3G on the tablet (provided it is not some iApple thing that doesn't allow it's users to use the products they have paid such a high cost for)

yeah it depends on your usage pattern. and most Android phones allow you to share your 3G network as a hotspot. btw ,how much is the price difference ?I saw one kinds of 3G routers with battery inside on 360buy. it's less than 200Yuan. this is one example of them.

if you sit long times at the airport or in a taxi then yeah 3G is definitly useful.

For small runs you still can tether your phone and can use "wifi" on your tab, but its freaking slow

not like the 3G internet is any fast here in china... no fun to surf in the internet

Get a smartphone. Share the phone's 3G connection as WiFi.

Connect on tablet.

Save $100.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
