With the reputation of China and Chinese products being what they are, can you imagine Chinese luxury brands ever working in Europe or the US? Are there actually some right now doing well?

Lenovo is very popular outside china... have good reputation as well... so is IBM & Volvo...
danielmarino:
Lenovo is Chinese but Volvo is Swedish and IBM American.
TedDBayer:
Ford sold Volvo to China years ago, IBM . I think PCssold to China also.
nevermind:
Buying a company doesn't count. Volvo is still considered a Swedish car. If Nike bought Li Ning you wouldn't say Li Ning was American.
As for the original question China doesn't have much in the way of luxury products. If they began to make traditional Chinese furniture and such but built it really well I could see that catching on.

IBM was bought by Lenovo. about 10 years ago, IBM was equally demanded as Apple product now. Apple gained popularity and IBM went down. I use Lenovo ThinkPad (acquired from IBM) but somehow not found impressive. Kinda using same old IBM that I saw 10 yrs ago.
It is not only the companies to blame for what they produce, it is also the mentality of people as well. Earlier, Indians used national products (though government acted on it) no matter what their quality was. Now the Indian products are getting better day by day and competent. For China, people simply go for foreign brands and they are ready to pay more even for fake. Few months back I read an article how a luxury furniture seller duped the Chinese customers saying that it was "Made in Italy." If Chinese people started to use their own products and then there will be demand for better quality.
May be it will work one day.
They could be in the future, if they can prove their quality and are different enough for people to be interested.
I think they lack innovation and originality. Tea and jade are two luxury products that are doing ok internationally though.
But luxury also means quality, and from what I see with quality of Chinese products, I don't know when they can repair their reputation of chinese quality and sell it as luxury.
Yes if they vastly alter their approach to manufacturing and business. Shoddy copies of other brands are just that.
in th future yes it is just like japan in the 60s poor quality bad reputation and they turned it around by updating thier manufaturing facilities with quality instead of old machines with shoddy workmanship
What about famous Chinese clothing brand Samuel & Kevin? How did they get that corny name ?
I am guessing, Chinese had to reprint and reuse all copies of A&F T-shirts they made. Infringement Law let them keep only '&' sign on the T-shirts, and innovative as they are, they just add two 'very famous' and handy English names : Kevin & Samuel.
Sure, why not? I saw a great shirt recently with the brand name 'Nomber 1 Most Specialest Clthes Comps' and I thought, "Now you.........are going to GO places!"

why would somebody wear a T-shirt with the text in a language one doesn't understand?
I always wanted T-shirt printing machine for Christmas or BD present.
I'm trying to think of an example of a Chinese LUXURY brand......having some trouble here.....a little help?
icnif77:
Nanjing Department stores are full of Samuel & Kevin clothing. I didn't see it in any other city in China. None in HK.
